Disclaimer:I own none of the characters, just the story idea. I just brought them together and changed that night and the rest of the world. So don’t sue me because all you would get is a used car and some DVDs.
Xander sat quietly in the library listening to Buffy prattle on about being Lady Elizabeth during the Halloween incident. If that wasn’t bad enough he had to listen to Willow chime in about how worthless she had been as a ghost. He remembered the outfit she had been wearing underneath her costume and wished she had just dressed as the hooker instead. At least that way he might have gotten laid out of this entire situation. Of course it didn’t help that Giles was being so tight lipped about the whole thing. He hated the way Giles tried to coddle them every time something serious happened. As Buffy begin arguing with Willow over which one was more worthless during the whole debacle Xander had enough.
“Would you both just shut the hell up?” Xander yelled. Instantly he knew something was wrong because Buffy practically threw Willow behind her.
“What the hell are you?” She demanded.
Xander thought about it for a moment then realized what was wrong. Something had stayed with him from Halloween night and Xander was afraid it was more than mere memories. Buffy seemed to relax as Xander seemed to shut down, but anyone would be able to tell she was still ready to react.
It was Giles that broke what seemed like an eternity of silence. “Buffy take Willow and go to class.”
“I’m not leaving you alone with that.” Buffy said never taking her eyes of Xander.
“Xander has been here all morning and could have attacked me at any moment before you arrived. Now take Willow to class so I can talk with him.” Giles stressed the word him to Buffy causing her to slowly move around Xander and lead Willow out of the library. “Now son how much exactly did you keep from Halloween.”
“I don’t know.” Xander said more to himself than anything else. “I’ve been sitting here listening to you guys talk and the thoughts in my head were strange. I guess I keep his temper.”
Giles sighed and stepped closer. “I believe you kept more then you realize. Buffy’s reaction was based on the power
you sent out, and your glowing eyes didn’t help either.”
Xander put his head in his hands and tried to control the panic. “Giles this isn’t French or an impulse to try to walk through things. If I have even an ounce of him left in me.” Xander trailed off as he didn’t know where to go from there.
“Ok let’s take this one step at a time. What have you been feeling or thinking? You said something about your thoughts a moment ago.” Giles asked.
“I don’t know; power, arrogance, anger?” Xander offered. Think back to when he woke up, “I felt it this morning but since then it’s gotten worse.”
Giles sat down and thought for a moment. Ethan’s spell brought into the world a powerful being, based on Xander's abillities last night; but he just couldn’t figure why the spell hadn’t taken everything but the memories back. All the other monsters had returned to normal children at the end of the night. He was about to ask another question when he noticed a look of understanding in Xander’s eyes.
“It’s the Hellmouth. He must have felt the spell ending and reached out and pulled magic from the Hellmouth to maintain his presence.” The look of understanding turned to one of horror. “He’s a part of me now. I have to go.”
“Ok Xander I’ll tell the office you were sick and we’ll meet at my house to discuss it further.” Giles didn’t what to say it but he really wanted Xander away from the Hellmouth if it was influencing him.
“No, Giles I mean I have to leave, Sunnydale.” Xander raised his hand to stop Giles’ protest. “Listen the Hellmouth is too tempting and I can fell the powers crying out to be used now.” Xander stood up. “I have to find a way to vanquish my powers or me.”
“Perhaps a simple binding or power stripping potion, would work?” Giles suggested. He was now worried that he was going to lose this young man he had grown to respect.
“No I can’t risk them falling into the hands of another. I have to destroy them or, if it is the only way, me.” Xander said.
Giles saw the resolved look in his eyes. “Ok, what do you need?”
“I don’t know, but right now I have to leave Sunnydale.” Xander turned to walk away but paused. “I’ll call you when I figure something out.” And with those parting words he vanished.
Giles quickly moved over to his computer and turned it on. When it finished loading he was surprised to hear the doors open and see Ms. Calendar walk in. “I never thought I would live to see it. Rupert Giles is using a computer willingly.”
“Your timing is perfect. Would you show me which device is the search engine that Willow uses.” Giles said looking around the computer.
Jenny was going to make fun of his lack of computer knowledge but she could tell he was upset. “Ok, what are we searching?”
“A fictional character from TV, Cole Turner.”
