Outside the Encampment.
The battle went as Xander predicted. By using combined arms tactics the main assault was repulsed. It gave Xander some breathing room. His air unit, Omega squad kept the adventurous types off their backs.
"He's just about ready to move on his own Xander. He's good enough for regular operations, but he needs more time if you want him in combat."
"Okay. Tony how are you feeling bud?"
"Just gimme a second to catch my breath and I'll wipe the ice with these guys."
"That's good. Can you do me a favor while you catch your breath?"
"Grab Betty and Frosty and meet us on top of the cliff. Oh take Jackie with you."
"Yeah. Can you guys drop Clint and Bobbi on the cliff on your way out?"
"Yeah sure. Come on Clint." Tony grabbed the Archer and took off for the cliff where he dropped him off."
"He's really out if it. Jackie keep a close eye on him."
"Yes sir, but how did you know how bad his head was scrambled?"
"That's easy. He turned down he chance to sweep Bobbi off her feet and took her husband instead." Xander snorted his amusement as the man sized rocket took off for the caves.
"Understood." Jackie helped Bobbi get to the top of the cliff by giving her a ride and chased after one of her creators.
Avengers Base Camp.
Betty watched the action from multiple angles on the door/display. On the outside it projected a 3D display of solid icy mountain. It changes win the weather to show snow and ice build-up as needed. A stripped down version of JARVIS controlled the base. Without the emotion circuits it took a lot less storage spa e for the AI to 'Live' in this system. It was the cave complex. Tiny nano bots and rover bots ran around doing its bidding.
"JARVIS can I please have a close up of Bruce?" Betty asked politely.
"Certainly Dr. Ross." Betty stopped the shiver from progressing at the emotionless response. It wasn't the same JARVIS without the warm tones. The Base tried, but it always came out wrong somehow. "This location is the best possible angle at the moment Dr. Ross." It continued, "These are from the Battle-mode JARVIS. He can detect most hostiles in his area, this Dr. Banner's current position."
"Thank you JARVIS." She concentrated on the action taking place on the segmented screen.
She saw that Bruce with support from Faith and JARVIS were about to finish what they set out to do. The destruction of the Ice Giant Calvary.
Faith was like knife, using surgical strikes to cut down the leaders, while JARVIS broke up the ground with massive bombardments on the terrain the mounts were using.
Bruce was brutal in the extreme. She knew he had to be. A lot of people were counting on his slowing and stopping the mounted Giants.
"He would jump into a cluster and grab the leg of the nearest mount and use it like a club. He would bat everything in his path and then fling the poor animal at a different cluster. He'd then jump at another part of the field repeating his earlier slaughter.
Faith on the other hand would swoop down and remove the leaders. She was like a surgeon. Removing only the dangerous parts. The leading elements.
Above them there was JARVIS in his Battle-mode configuration. He would alternate between destroying the terrain, or large groups that Bruce missed.
Between the three of them the charge was broken up. They were now making sure that the Ice Giants retreated back to where they started from.
All that horror, death and destruction paled compared to what started the whole mess in the first place. The Tac-Nuke that was Thor and it's effects on the Big Giant Ymir. Which can be summarized in only one word: pitiful.
"Dr. Ross there is a call from the JACOSTA unit."
"Please put her through."
"Avengers Base please respond..."
"This is Betty, Jackie. What can I do for you?"
"Dr. Ross could you please prepare for an evacuation?"
"What now? What about my patient?"
"I have already instructed the Base AI on what to do. It will take care of the rest. Just be ready to go as soon as Mr. Stark and I land. He will make the final decision regarding the base."
"Alright Jackie, but you're not giving me much time."
"We don't have much time...Betty, please do the best you can. We're almost there."
Betty ran around aimlessly, grabbing this and discarding that. She took a moment to stop the her panicked reaction and gather her thoughts.
"What is needed? What can she take with her?" after answering those two simple questions she calmed down significantly. She got a bag and dropped a few essential items into it. She was on time. Stark and Jackie landed outside the cave.
The AI opened the door and let the cold air in. She shivered, she had forgotten to button up the jacket. She did that as Tony Stark and Jackie walked in.
"Are you ready?" Tony asked her.
"Yes. What about..." she waved in the direction of the other nook where Frost was kept.
"Taken care of already. Mini-J. I want you seal up the place tight. Do what you can with what you've got, but We'll be gone soon and probably for a long while. Do you need anything?"
"No sir. Have a safe journey."
Tony saw Jackie moving a silver coffin like container. Frost was inside. There was a space at the back edge of the 'coffin' for a couple of someones to ride. "Hop on Betty. We have to book. Xander used this ruse of his to get me out of the way and give my body the time to regenerate the damage. It saved me a side trip to take care of this place."
They walked outside with Jackie leading the coffin out of the base. Tony turned around and gave the AI the signal to seal up the cave. "Mini-J I want you to make sure this place is sealed up tight. I don't know when we'll be back or if we're back at all. You have your protocols. Follow them."
"Yes sir. I will expand internally and make sure you have a safe haven to return to should you need it."
"That's all I can ask. See you when I see you." Tony took off and Jackie with the silvery coffin attached through to one of her ports took off after him.
