This will be short. I just aced my Cisco midterm, so here’s another before I get back to studying.
I would like to thank Vipomus and PrincessOfMayhem for Recommending this story.
“You know what?”
“What...” Xander dodged an ice lance wielding foe, “...Faith?” he grunted, and chopped the leg from under the Ice Giant as he passed by. Faith finished him off with her Mithril War Axe.
“Did I tell you that I lovvvvveeee, my Axe. Bossy is the best present you’ve ever made for me.” She threw the ‘Bossy the Axe’ at a charging Ice Giant, and watched as the whirlwind buzz saw flew back to her hand. “Not only does it fly back, and never loses its edge and is just all around fun to use, it’s also got that nifty self-cleaning spell Dawn added for me. Remind me to thank her again, when she’d done with Mr. Freeze.”
“What do you mean nope? You dope!” she asked casually. The days of flying off the handle were long over. Motherhood will do that for you. Shocking her kids with her flirtatious behaviour with their father and Dawn was another story. She never got tired of seeing them turn red. Lately it was taking more obvious displays of affection between her and Dawn to do the job. Nothing she did to Xander shocked them anymore. Not when Clint and Bobbi, Loki and Hilda did the same in front of their kids. They took that kind of behavior for granted.
“Nope...as in not Mr. Freeze. Batman villain, he was big, sure, but not that big. Plus I don’t care how big Arnold gets, he’s not ever gonna be ‘THAT’ big.”
“You just had to ruin the moment didn’t you?” she was peeved, “You had to geek out on me in the middle of a freakin’ hoedown...” she jumped high and snap kicked a Giant in the face, splintering his head and dropping him at her feet. “With freakin’ Ice Giants all around...” she somersaulted over another and swung around the next like a stripper with a pole. Xander stabbed his black sword into the chest of the Ice Giant she somersaulted over and kicked his dead body at the three other charging giants running at them. Faith finished by swinging up from behind her sparring partner and gave him both feet into the back of his head. She came down on top of the prone figure, with her Axe leading the way. The head splintered under the impact. “...In the freakin’ home of the Asgardian ‘Gods.’ Could you not have saved that moment for like when I’m not armed and dangerous?”
“Faith...” Xander looked at her not believing the last bit, “...When are you ever, not armed and dangerous?”
“Awww. That’s so sweet. Okay. I forgive you for the geek-out, but try not to have any more for today. Okay?”
“...” Xander thought about it and relented, “Okay, but just for you. Dawn would have at least let me do another...”
He didn’t get to finish, “Nu uh Boytoy. No way Jose. Stop dreaming. That girl is all grown up. You haven’t noticed ‘cause you geek-o-rama moments are few and far between these days. For which you get a kiss...” she jumped into his arms in the middle of the battle and gave him a great big kiss. She didn’t let go, and when an Ice Giant tried to take advantage she threw ‘Bossy’ backwards without losing lip-lock. The Axe did its thing and flew back to her outstretched hand.
Amora noticed the display and approved. ‘Something new. I like her, and her man is worthy of my attention. I think I’ll invite them both for a private celebration after this dreary little war is over.’ She sighed tiredly at the fruitless tragedy of her crushed shoes and lingerie. ‘That bastard will pay!’
*Stop that you 'Bastard!'!* Dawn though at the spear. Gungnir kept trying to feed her cosmic energy on the sly, but every time he did it it was like sticking her with a needle. *Every time you do that I get hit. I promise if you don't stop I'm throwing you to the ends of the multiverse. No. One. Will ever find you. Got. ME?*
*YES.* Gungnir didn't mean it. He would keep trying until he got his way. He noticed the KEY draw more energy from the trans-dimensional bridge into her core and power up yet again. Ymir grew to match her.
This was Gungnir's chance to escape his fate. He wanted out of the spear that imprisoned his body. By making Dawn expand constantly he was forcing her to spend some of her energy into making him grow to match Ymir's weapon. Ymir's club like spear grew every time he did.
Gungnir figured that one more time and he would be free. He gave her another shot that made her jerk to the left, instead of to the right. Straight into a swing by Ymir's spear that caught her, in a glancing blow to the head that stunned her. I stunned her enough to stop her from grabbing for that energy flowing in the bridge. She dropped like a stone. Her body lying all over the Bifrost, from the portal to the edge of the Asgard Gate. Any Ice Giant crossing at that point was crushed beneath her weight.
Ymir looked down, unsure of what to do next. He hesitated, but he raised his spear slowly.
"Faith! Cover me!" Xander didn't wait to see if she did. He didn't have to. She'd cover his back or die trying. "Tony! JARVIS! Jackie! Smoke him!"
Tony didn't reply. The situation was dire enough to still his tongue. He'd say something after Dawn was safe, and not a moment before.
Amora saw her moment and took it. She cast a spell that was famous for it's simplicity and effectiveness. It had broken up many a budding love affair. Her spell targeted the brain and made the other party smell a foul odor. The affected person targeted thought that the other party let one truly foul one go. That usually killed the mood right then and there. Best of all since it affected the brain, there was no physical evidence to explain what happened.
Ymir as no exception. She didn't target his biology. She didn't give a damn about his biology. She targeted his brain while he was distracted. Her spell penetrated his defenses and made him jerk back a few steps in confusion.
JARVIS took advantage of Ymir's dis-orientation and fired his Gravity Canon at full power at Ymir's face. It made the Giant blink. It also bought Jackie and Tony a few moments to reach his face.
They both fired several volley's of smoke missiles that covered his face and obscured his vision. While Ymir tried to clear the smoke, Dawn recovered.
Odin saw that she needed just a little more time to get back up. He concentrated his Odin Force and blasted Ymir off his feet. The Giant fell opposite Dawn.
The two giants scrambled to get back up. The one who didn't get back up in time was done for.
Dawn was the first one up, but Ymir was old and crafty. He rolled back to his feet away from her. The two stood eying each other.
Dawn took a breath and threw Gungnir with all her strength. Burying the spear all the way into the center of Asgard.
*NNNNNOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!* That was Gungnir's one shot at freedom, and in his haste he lost all he had worked for since he found the KEY on Midgard.
Odin heard the scream on the ethereal net. Anyone connected to the net heard it as well. Only Odin knew what it meant. He knew that he would have problems with Gungnir in the future. 'It would be best if the KEY grew beyond the purely physical bounds. Their next battle would at least not endanger the physical realm, his domain, any longer, and if Ymir is defeated, then he would endanger Asgard no more.
He looked around and saw, the KEY's family staring at raw display of power before them. He noticed that Xander Harris and his daughter Joyce were the only ones who realized the true significance of such a display meant.
Dawn Summers the KEY was no longer Mortal. She had become what she always was. An 'Abstract'. She was the KEY to everything.
