Challenge: for the livejournal 2012 August Fic-a-Day Challenge
Timeline: post- ‘Chosen’ for BtVS; season 1 for DW, but change the dates so they line up.
A/N: just a quick one today.EDIT A/N: Due to a misunderstanding - on my part - I thought I had to post all these oneshots as a collection. Re-reading the request, I see that isn't the case, so I've decided to break up the stories into a series like I did last year so I can post each oneshot in the appropriate fandom category. I apologize to those who reviewed this story before: Harry, RevDorothyL, tchizek, zigpal. I greatly appreciated the reviews, but I think this way will work better in the long run for readers.
I saved the reviews offline if the people would like to know what they wrote before (assuming they want to re-review).

Tokyo Gardens sushi bar
Buffy was enjoying a nice assortment of sushi in Atlanta, Georgia, before she caught her flight to England for the annual Council pre-apocalypse meeting. Suddenly, she heard a woman at the next table pleading with one of her companions.
“C’mon, Suzanne! Get in the spirit of things! Today’s ‘Name Yourself Day’ and we’ve all picked nicknames for the day, why can’t you?” the redhead semi-whined.‘Name Yourself Day’
? Who the heck came up with that?
The coiffed brunette asked almost the same question, “Why would somebody create a holiday like that? And how did they decide that it should be on April 9th?”
“I don’t know!” the redhead exclaimed in annoyance. “It’s just a holiday for fun!”
Buffy could almost see the pout on Suzanne’s face as she replied snappishly, “Well, I don’t like it! I’m quite proud to be Suzanne Sugarbaker and don’t see any reason why I should have to change it because of some stupid holiday that I’ve never heard of before!” she finished haughtily.
Smiling to herself, Buffy could picture Cordelia saying something very similar during their high school days.
Despite the fact it was a little rude, Buffy leaned over to join the conversation. “Sorry, but I couldn’t help but overhear your discussion. I would have loved this holiday back when I was in high school; everyone always gave me such grief over my name. I’m Buffy Summers, by the way,” she introduced herself, waving her hand in greeting.
The redhead started the introductions on the other side, pointing to each person as she spoke, “I’m Mary Jo Shively, this is Charlene Frazier and Julia Sugarbaker, and of course you heard that she’s Suzanne.”
“I don’t get it; what’s wrong with Buffy?” Suzanne asked. “The girls we grew up with were named Muffy, Bitsy--”
Julia interrupted her sister, “And so were their dogs
“Exactly!” Buffy agreed. “And you wouldn’t believe the number of guys that thought I was some stripper wannabe since I had a ‘stripper’ name. Then my mom explained that she named me after Buffy Sainte-Marie. After that, I figured it was pretty cool to have the name of a popular songwriter.”
“That was the person I thought of when you told us your name,” Julia admitted. “I admire strong women like her.”
Buffy smiled to herself, a little amused at the ‘strong women’ comment; if only Julia knew about Slayers…
A/N: I really liked that last line so I decided it should be the ending line.
