“So your telling me this is all okay?” Buffy narrowed her eyes in a subtle yet noticeable warning.
“No,” Bobby shook his head. “It's just none of our damn business, s'all.”
He was right, and Buffy knew that. Damn him he was right. It was none of her business what her younger-yet-of-age-sister did behind closed doors. Even if what she did was with an egotistical, self-centered, obnoxious, demon-hunter who...DAMN HIM! Why did Bobby have to be right!?
The last time she was this pissed off the world was ending. She kicked ass then and she wanted to kick some serious ass now. Except a very wise demon-hunter was standing in her way. She knew that what he was saying was true, she had to back off and give her sister some space. This would be so much easier if she hadn’t already met the cocky little bastard that she was shacked up with. Dean. That was his name, Dean Winchester. Buffy liked his younger brother Sam just fine and would have much preferred him to Dean. Clearly her sister was not wise in her choices towards men, and clearly they did not have the same taste. Accept for a few past mistakes-*cough cough*Spike *cough cough*-Buffy had her act together when it came to the opposite sex. She would never have chosen someone as overbearing and just plain crass as Dean was, for her sister. Dawn clearly had other plans and had been following him around while they demon hunted together. Which was not Buffy's idea of a great future for her sister.
“I suppose you are right.” Buffy rolled her eyes. “How am I supposed to just accept this?” She dropped her face into the palms of her hands and let out a dramatic groan.
“Listen,” Bobby began to speak. He stepped closer to the clearly distressed slayer and put his arm around her gently. “I understand that it isn't easy, when someone you have taken care of almost like she is your daughter gets hooked up with some guy you don't approve of, you want to stop them. He certainly is not what you wanted for her, probably s'pected some goody two shoes Doctor or Lawyer type. I've seen the way he is with her and it is nothing less than incredible, especially since this is Dean were talking about. The best you can do is wait it out and allow her make her own decisions, even if they aren't the ones you would make for her. But clearly you have done a good job with Dawn and she is no fool, maybe you should give her a little more of your trust.”
Buffy looked up at him now from underneath her eyelashes. There was a clear look of shock on her pretty face and she couldn't seem to keep her mouth from hanging open. Every word he spoke made complete and total sense to her. Bobby was right again, she knew Dawn was smart and she needed to stop judging her decisions. Maybe she was misjudging her choice, misjudging Dean.
“Is he really good to her?” The petite blonde asked, her voice barely above a whisper. She was still distracted by his shockingly truthful speech.
“Yeah, sure is.” Bobby grinned. “It's a little sickening how they are together if yah ask me.” He chuckled and then looked back at Buffy. “Maybe it's time you stopped stressing about every little detail in your life and just relaxed, Buffy. She's all grown up now and she can take care of herself just fine. You need to start worrying about yourself a little more. Maybe a take a break from everything.”
“I wish I could,” she let out a deep sigh.
“Well, I'm always here if you need a friend. Or if you need help with anything.” Bobby promised with a generous grin on his face. “Oh, and I promise to keep a close eye on your lil' sis.”
Buffy couldn't help but smile herself as she looked at his welcoming face. She had never really been around someone quite like Bobby Singer. As he wrapped his arms around her for a big bear hug, all she could think about was how badly she wished she bore the last name Singer. She imagined a world where she had a father to hug her like this when she was little. He was warm and helpful and even though he was not the classiest or even most normal person, she valued his company. She realized how badly she needed someone like him in her life. Buffy smiled and said her goodbyes, walking away just a little bit lighter than when she entered. Maybe, even making a new friend in the process.
