Don't Look

It happens quickly.

One minute you are coming down stairs fresh from a shower and Faith is in front of the couch with a bowl of
cereal for lunch while Delia pops in a DVD. Claudia is in the kitchen and Fredo stands in the doorway on the
phone.

And then the world explodes and something snaps when you hit the wall even as you throw the shield out
where your sisters are you do not think it holds. Glass cut skin and the blood runs.

The living room is gone, and it is Claudia who has your arm the gun is in her hand but she holds it in a way
that says maybe she can’t lift her arm. She pushes you down and fires with the gun in her other hand and the
sound is distantly muffled.

Glass bites into skin.

Don’t look

It takes a long time to focus, or maybe you think it’s a long time, your vision is running in streams of color
and Claudia is out of focus as she shoots through the gaping hole that used to be the living room. Fredo is
suddenly there, pulling you towards the stairs shoving you up and white hot pain erupts in your head, he is saying something but you can’t understand because your ears are still ringing from the blast.

A blast that happened so close to Delia, so close to Faith…There were rat forcefully throws you up the stairs,
you cannot put weight on your arm. Something is sticking out of your shoulder.

Don’t touch it

Spots appear in your vision and it hurts to breath, it hurts to think. There are more shots they are muffled
and far away. It takes too long to get to the bedroom, your cellphone is plugged into the charger on the floor.
Ma answers on the first ring, and you are sure she is talking but you still can’t make out what she is saying.

“Ma.” The word is soft, maybe shock is setting in, but there are spots appearing in your vision, “Delia-“

Delia was lying in front of the TV, Faith on the couch. A TV that was now blown to bits and a couch that had
been thrown backwards.

Don’t look

There are vibrations people coming and the phone falls from your fingers as pain erupts in your chest and
when you cough there is blood.

Don’t touch it

Fredo is there suddenly, there is blood on his shirt, you cough more blood on him as you try to talk. He yells
something as he eases you onto the floor, he holds your hand and it is cold and it is hard to breathe.

Sound is coming back slowly and it is painful, but his eyes are so worried, “You…okay…sshh…on.”

He touches that something in your shoulder and it spreads pain across your chest, and when you cough you
taste blood in your mouth, it’s getting hard to keep your eyes open.
