Disclaimer: They all belong to either Joss and Mutant Enemy, Laurell K. Hamilton or J. K. Rowling. Deal with it. I have.

Time Frame: Starts immediately after my earlier story, 'Breaking Away For A New Start,' which follows the Season Three episode, 'Graduation, Part 2,' for Xander and then goes seriously AU. For the Anita Blake character(s), this is pre-'Guilty Pleasures.' For the Harry Potter-verse, the timeline has been altered to match my whims, so it's occurring near the end of the Golden Trio's fifth year.

Spoilers: None intended, but if you don’t know what happened up to this point, why are you reading this story?

Character Bashing: Just the usual idiots. If you read my stories, you can probably guess who I'm talking about.

Feedback: Of course!

Archiving: Talk to me first, please.

Author’s Note 3: This is story #2 in my 'Fallacies Can Lead to False Impressions' series.

Author’s Note 4: This is story #6 in my own personal Christmas Fic-A-Day Challenge.

Previously , in 'Breaking Away For A New Start':

The expression of surprise on the demon's face as the bat impacted on the jewel in its forehead was definitely a Polaroid moment, Xander decided, even as the monster disappeared in a flash of light almost instantly.

Spotted Horse abruptly dropped to the ground, no longer held up by the Mohra demon. As he scrambled back up to his feet, he looked at Xander with a quizzical expression as he asked, "What made you think to hit that thing in the head like that?"

"Well, it kinda seemed like an obvious target, didn't it – having a big freakin' jewel in its forehead?" Xander replied as he sagged back against the concrete wall behind him for a moment. "It was either gonna go poof when it broke, or become a vegetable when I drove it through his brain.

"What was I supposed to do? Say, 'Hey, wicked cool jewel you got in your forehead there, dude. Really beats having a tattoo'?" Harris snarked, as he bent over to pick up Katie.

"And after seeing what your former playmate could do, I don't think I'm gonna take any chances with Scrappy Doo over here doing a repeat of his buddy's act," Xander commented as he staggered over to where the werewolf's body was lying.

A moment's work quickly enabled him to separate what remained of the lycanthrope's head from the rest of his body, and with that done, Xander turned to look over at his fellow survivor.

"So," Xander said as he caught his breath and began taking stock of his injuries, unaware how exposure to both creatures' blood and tissues was now reworking his body on a fundamental level, "since I'm new in town, can you recommend any semi-clean, cheap hotels I could check out?"

And now, in 'Dealing With The Aftermath':

"Well, the place I'm staying is clean and relatively cheap," Bernardo replied as he picked up his Glock 21 and reflexively began checking it for damage. Xander, meanwhile, was (due to the location of his injuries) awkwardly trying to check the damage resulting from the gashes in his chest and his lower back.

"Okay, being clean *and* cheap is obviously of the good," Xander nodded his approval of the information received. "And by any chance, would you know possibly where these two bozos might have set up their lair?

"Because in the past, I've found that the bad guys usually have a fair amount of loot lying around for any interested parties who're poking around said lairs, to acquire," Harris noted parenthetically.

"And picking up some extra dinero, or any available artifacts we can sell, for to spend on food and lodging, would definitely be greatness, since I'm strictly on a budget, here," he added, grimacing a bit as he tied a makeshift bandage around his ribs, to staunch the bleeding

The founding Scooby wasn't bleeding nearly as much as he'd believed he might have been, so that was majorly of the good, since it meant he wouldn't be laid up nearly as long as he'd first thought.

:: And if Bernardo, here, does know where Shaggy and Scaly were hiding out, then we might find all sorts of stuff to either scavenge or sell, :: Xander reasoned, brightening up a bit at the prospect of some easy money – so to speak – potentially falling into his metaphorical lap.

"Uh, I gotta ask – are you naturally a really fast healer, kid?" Xander heard his fellow demon fighter ask, and he looked up to see a worried expression on the other man's face as he looked at both his own and Xander's previously fairly-heavily bleeding wounds.

All of which now looked as though they were actually a few days old and without any signs of infection.

"Mother pus bucket!" Harris swore under his breath. "It never fails – try and do a good deed, and you get screwed over by someone Up There!"
