Ready To Fly by cwolf

Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy, any of the random crossovers in this series, or Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow

Joe Sullivan alias Sky Captain slapped his gloves against his leg as he walked away from his plane.

As he walked to where his favorite genius tinkerer and one man science division was, he looked around the new base. It was 3 years after the events of Dr. Totenkopf. Things were coming along nicely for America and his group in general. They’d managed to make some good advancements using the doctor’s notes. Though the days when robots would be ground troops taking hits that soldiers usually died from, were many years away.

He and Polly had been enjoying trying to reconnect when a message from Dex caught up to them.

“Alright Dex.” Joe said as he walked into the command center area. “Talk to me.”

Dex was frowning as he went back and forth between the morse code line and a miniature map he was double checking coordinates on.

He paused at a table, picked up a sheet of paper, and handed it over. “This came across our line. But the source doesn’t exist.” Then he walked up to the big map and started issuing orders.

Joe read the message as he heard Dex beginning to talk faster.

FLASH TRAFFIC

FROM: Earth SGC, Earth, Sol System, Sector 001

TO: ALCON

RE: IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE REQUIRED

MESSAGE FOLLOWS

1. Cleveland, USA Hellmouth opened by hostile extradimensional combat elements. Earth territory penetrated and ISWC alert teams on site overwhelmed.

2. Alert message transmitted in clear at 2019 hours from onsite OIC Dawn Summers -- SET CODE RAGNAROK. Extradimensional telemetry indicates HXD units tasked with establishing beachhead for follow-on forces. All subsequent contact lost. Efforts to re-establish so far unsuccessful.

3. QRF teams deploying on orders from ISWC and SGC IAW Article 9 of the IOA. However, anticipate QRF units to experience 90% + casualties upon contact.

4. Request any and all available craft and units be deployed by any and all means to Earth to assist with repelling hostile forces and evacuation of civilian populace as well should tactical situation and intelligence updates indicate such need.

5. RETRANS message to all available organizations and units as can receive and respond, to include interstellar and extradimensional entities capable of mobilizing a response.

MESSAGE ENDS

DIMTRANS

Joe blinked. “Dex!” He yelled. “What is this?”

”I don’t know. But I sent Frankie a message to check an area out along the coordinates where the signal is strongest.”

”What signal?”

“The one that somehow linked up to our line from an area of the ocean we don’t have any cables running or Frankie’s relay ships and sent that message across our lines.”

“What?”

“I don’t know how to explain it. But it is a message, and..”

One of the techs started taking down a message. When he finished, he handed it over.

“It’s from Frankie. She says there’s some kind of fluctuation causing waves etc at those grid coordinates.” Dex said as he pointed to the big map.

“Any ideas?”

Dex popped in a piece of chewing gum. “Well… the message does say extra-dimensional..”

“And that is?”

”I don’t know the specifics. But I can guess from a few facts. One, an unknown communication is coming across ours using a more advanced signal than the one we tracked during those troubles 3 years ago. Two, there’s some kind of visible disturbance causing a few waves and other things where Frankie is. Three, I know you pick on me about comic books but…”

Dex handed an open one over.

Joe looked down at a picture of a group of people pointing weapons at a wavy image of an unfamiliar landscape.

“I’d say another dimension is in trouble… and if it’s going to more than one dimension..”

“What?”

”The initial beachhead might be preparation for hitting all the others.”

Joe nodded as he thought. Then he started issuing commands.

“Tell Frankie to bring all reserves to a location close enough to this, disturbance. But far enough to stand by without trouble. I also want all of our contacts sent a priority message. Fleet ships and planes standing by at that location.”

Joe then started walking toward his plane.

“What about you?”

“I need to call all the pilots who have finished their training with the new upgrades you’ve installed on our planes. Ask Frankie to send a squadron through to assess how low, high, or fast we need to come in.”

“Will do Captain.”

“General!”

O’Neill turned around in exhasperation. “Now what?”

“I have a group of unknowns… um, one of our spotters says it’s a 40s or 50s era squadron… with some unknown features?”

“What the hell?”

Another tech turned around. “Sir…”

“Yes?”

“I’m picking up.. morse code from them?”

As they were speaking, one plane turned around and the rest started firing a mix of laser and bullets.

“How in the hell do they have lasers on those?”

On the other side of the rift, Frankie smirked as she waited for the Captain. Dex always did design the best toys for his friends. Though the new weapons did have a slow recharge rate, they were highly classified. After all, having something that could burn into the armor of a warship or airborn carrier with better precision than a bomb.. was an advantage.

Of course finding out later that it was rather low on the tech side of things compared to a lot of the other forces on the other side, would make her laugh as Dex went into a hyperactive fit over what he could do with that technology.
