Second Conviction

Unexpected Paths 1.6

Second Conviction

by PaBurke

Xander tossed Faith a chocolate candy bar from his private stash. "This calls for a celebration. Faith has graduated to the next level of Slaydom. She now has Slayer Dreams."

Oz was a bit surprised. Xander guarded his chocolate stash with extreme vigor. With three super-powered girls aboard, and one girl with a history of clepto, it was quite necessary.

Oz, of course, was pleased that Faith had a Slayer Dream. He wondered if there was a way to make a T-shirt to commemorate the event, after all they should have several Slayers that receive Slayer Dreams in the future. A T-shirt would be good. Xander would help him on that undertaking.

No, Oz was concerned about Robert. The Initiative was not one of Oz's favorite memories. It ranked right up there with Veruca and thinking that he had killed that girl, Teresa, back in high school.

Robert was a soldier, a marine. He had the training and the bearing and the posture of one. Maybe there was something in the smell that set Oz on edge. The wolf had recognized it and had wanted to attack on sight. It was as if the wolf saw a prey trying to become the predator and wanted to give him the smack-down. That was why Oz had been down by the transport truck to begin with. It was to remove himself from the temptation of killing the guards. If Dawn and Willow had turned their backs for a moment, Oz would have immediately assisted Spike in dispatching the three individuals. He would have torn them to pieces.

Robert had been injured. That had saved his life. Oz had concentrated on the injury while trying to ignore the smell of blood and the proud yet tired tilt of the man's head.

Robert was supposed to help. Oz was supposed to not kill Robert. Oz could deal with that. One did not kill fellow helpers in saving the world. Robert had better hurry up and help save the world.

Robert was a soldier. The Initiative had been full of soldiers, including Riley. Oz could deal. He and the wolf had come to an understanding before. He had no problems dealing with the Slayers and the rest of the Scoobies anymore.

Oz was a werewolf. Veruca had been a werewolf. Willow had dealt. So had the rest of the Scoobies.

Robert was a soldier on their side. He would help protect Willow, or a least free up Oz during a fight so that the werewolf could watch out for Willow more.

Oz was a werewolf.

Robert was a soldier.

The two would tolerate each other.

Oz had dealt.
