Prologue: Darkness

Ship of the Line: Ships of the Line

Summary: BtVS, ST, SW, SG-1 crossover. Minor mention of B5/Halo. Will note more as it appears. Based on the Halloween costume episode and answering the Ship of the Line challenge from Zaion. Very AU. It is remotely related to my Chaos Theory series on FanFiction dot Net.

Disclaimer: I don’t own it, wish I did. I’m not making any money off of it – so please don’t sue me. BtVS is the property of Mutant Enemy and 20th Century Fox. Star Wars is owned by George Lucas... correction – Disney (along with way too many things). Stargate SG-1 belongs to Double Secret Productions and Sci-Fi channel. And Star Trek is the property of Paramount Pictures. Babylon 5 property of JMS and TNT. Halo property of Bungie/Microsoft. If you recognize it and haven't read one of my stories before, then its likely someone else's.

Prologue: Darkness

Woooo... Purrr.....

There was darkness. Then again, there was always darkness before the light. Sadly, the dark was so very dark when your name was Alexander Lavelle Harris. The rushing of air, the sound that was so mechanical, yet so vital – filling every single moment of dark with the terror and pain of a life not his own.

Woooo... Purrr.....

In the end we only have ourselves to blame for our decisions. We cannot truly cry foul onto others, its our responsibility to see ourselves through the troubles set before us. We cannot hold others accountable for our failings and foibles – although many often try to do so.

Woooo... Purrr.....

No, Xander was not one of those people. He was rash, jovial, comic, serious, and had totally taken one Ethan Rayne up on his most generous and un-refusable offer.

Woooo... Purrr.....

All sales final, after all.

Woooo... Purrr.....

Yes, Rayne had given him the suit and more. Even refused to take his $2 costume allowance, as he was a “Friend” of “Old Ripper”, as the Englishman called his acquaintance from younger days.

Woooo... Purrr.....

No one had made him take the things that person had given him. And nobody forced him to do the things he did with those items. Therefore, he had nobody to blame but himself.

Woooo... Purrr.....

Xander heard the breath...

Woooo... Purrr.....

The breath he could not control.

Woooo... Purrr.....

In... Out... In... Out...

Woooo... Purrr..... Woooo... Purrr.....

It would be with him forever, or at least until he died. Although there was the slight hope that it would only remain in his nightmares, instead of reality. The vocoder in that helmet, amplifying a raspy, weak voice damaged from searing lava and noxious gases belched from the surface of a toxic, violent planet.

Woooo... Purrr.....

“Xander?”

Woooo... Purrr.....

“Where am I?”

Woooo... Purrr.....

Sometimes the decisions made in a moment come back to haunt us. In the dark.

Woooo... Purrr.....

After all, how do you tell your friends, your family in all but blood, what your decisions did to a young Dawn Summers?

Woooo... Purrr.....

Hopefully, the memories of Jean-Luc Picard would help him with that particular nightmare...

AN: This is my first story being posted to TTH. I hope it meets with approval. This prologue is very short compared to my usual ramblings, and I promise future chapters will have more to them. That is, of course, if there is anyone who thinks I should continue. :) I cannot guarantee any sort of update rate, real life often intrudes on my muse. I figured a polite warning about that now will help, although I do have the next chapter ready. :) Reviews are welcome.
