Title: Looking Out (1/1)
Author: Jmaria (Jill)
Disclaimer: Not mine. Whedon owns Anne and MGM owns U.V.
Characters: Anne (Lily, Chanterelle from BtVS) and U.V.(Edward Vaugh) (Disturbing Behavior, the novelization not the movie ending)
Spoilers: The book ending of Disturbing Behavior, none really for Ats (maybe some of season 2 or 3, whenever she shows up)
Setting: A safe house for teens in LA.
Summary: 20 minutes with Anne Challenge. . . . It can’t just be over, not after everything they’ve gone through. One wants to change the world, so teens don’t end up like she almost did. The other just wants to live with what he did.
A/N: There will be a longer sequel to this fic. I just like the characters too much. Looking Out
Night was the time of day she feared the most. It could never be the way she thought it was, back when she was a kid. Because she knew the horrors of the night. . . she’d seen too many things to pretend they didn’t exist. She glanced down at her watch, knowing she’d never make it back to the house before dark.
Anne clutched the grocery bag to her chest, juggling the heavy brown bag in her arms. Then she heard the sound behind her. She stopped for a second before picking up the pace. This would not end well. Something crashed into a trash can behind her. She jerked around. A man was crumpled to the ground, garbage spilling out falling over his arm. The man couldn’t be more than nineteen.
“Excuse me, are you ok?” She called. She was still keeping her distance.
“I - I need - “He peered up at the blond woman.
“Help . . . I’m not feeling so hot. . . “ He coughed loudly.
Anne took a step closer. The guy was unnaturally pale. . . which in LA equally unnaturally alive. She wasn’t getting trapped by a vamp. She hadn’t lived this long by . . . ok, well by being exactly that stupid. But this time, there was no one around to pull her out of this mess. But she noticed his eyes. . . they weren’t normal. They were red. . .vamps had yellow eyes.
“What are you?”
“Sick. . . Took some messed up shit. . .some guy tried to neck me. . . Just wanted to blunt the pain. . .”
“No, not what are you on, why are you so pale?”
“Albino. . “
“Shit. . .” Anne twisted the cross charm into her palm as she grabbed his hand. It didn’t start smoking, so she knew he wasn’t lying.
“Who are you?”
“Well, buddy, that’s a tricky question. I go by Anne.” She said, helping him to stand to his feet. He leaned heavily on her.
“U.V.” He moaned.
“That’s a weird name.”
“Ultraviolet. Gavin -”
“Look, let’s hold that story until we get someplace safe.” She sighed. It wasn’t that far. “LA isn’t the safest place to be at night.”
“Come to LA. We thought we could get away from the Blue Robots. . .LA’s even worse.”
“You got that right, buddy.”
