Spoilers: post-Chosen, Harry Potter- probably canon through Goblet of Fire. I may be using parts of Order of the Phoenix, but I'm not sure.

Summary: Hogwarts is in need of help...

Notes: Willow, Xan, and company are 23. Faith is 22. Draco, Hermione, and the others are in sixth year, so they're 16, and Dawn's the same age as them. Vi is 18, and since Oliver is four years ahead of Harry, Oliver is 20 (and no longer a student, obviously).

Prologue

{ ... She wants to go home... But nobody's home... That's where she lies... Broken inside... With no place to go... No place to go... To dry her eyes... Broken inside... Open your eyes and look outside... Find the reasons why... You've been rejected... Now you can't find... What you've left behind... -Avril Lavigne, Nobody's Home... }

"Okay, so explain to me this: why, in all my time as a Slayer, have I not heard of this 'wizarding world'?" Buffy Anne Summers asked, making little quote signs in the air as she spoke the last two words. Rupert Giles sighed, pulling off his glasses and cleaning them, then sliding them back on.

"Because, Buffy, the wizarding world is very private. Some of them fear Muggles-"

"Muggles?" Dawn asked, a slight frown on her face, and Giles sighed again.

"Non-magic people. Muggles - all people, really - do have a tendency to fear that which they do not understand. Muggles and witches and wizards do not really understand each other. They have no use for our modern 'conveniences' such as cars and electricity, because they can travel and give light with magic. Much of the wizarding community does not live in 'our' world."

"Then why is it that you know about it?" Buffy piped up, and Giles sighed yet again, a common habit when he was trying to explain things to Buffy. The others in the group - Faith, Vi, Willow, and Xander - were all silent, though Giles thought that Xander's silence had something to do with the fact that he was apparently asleep. At least, Giles assumed that was what the light snoring indicated.

"Well, that is because not all wizards are leery of the Muggle world. Some, in fact, marry Muggles or come from Muggle families. In the past, the Watcher's Council has worked with wizards - they have helped us find Slayers. The coven Willow visited, while an unconventional group, is part of that world themselves."

"And now these wizards and stuff need our help," Faith said, a small frown on her face. Before she could say anything more, Buffy piped up again.

"And why do they need our help, anyway? I mean, I know you say they've suddenly got lots of vampires around and no one knows why, but... They're witches and wizards. Can't they do something about it?"

"Buffy, Hogwarts is a school. We're talking about children here. Yes, they have a Defense Against the Dark Arts class, but they are still children. And while there are charms on the school to keep certain unwanted guests from coming in, it doesn't seem to be working at the moment... Not against these vampires, anyway."

"Can't they, like, do a de-invitation spell or something?" Dawn wanted to know, her gaze on Giles, but it was Willow who answered.

"Probably not. It's a school, and therefore a public place. Vampires may not be able to get into the dorms or whatever - Spike needed an invitation to get into the room when Buffy and I lived on campus freshman year - but they can probably get into the classroom areas."

"And some of these classes, such as Care of Magical Creatures, are conducted outside to begin with," Giles stated, and Dawn huffed a bit.

"Defense Against the Dark Arts? Care of Magical Creatures? Why is it that those wizard kids get to take classes like that, and I'm stuck with algebra and chemistry?" the younger Summers wanted to know, and Giles smiled kindly at her.

"Because you are not a witch, Dawn. Only witches and wizards can go to Hogwarts... And that being said, in asking for our help, they are taking a very large chance. Muggles do not go to Hogwarts for... anything. I do not know if a Muggle has ever been allowed on school grounds... Muggle-born witches and wizards, but no actual Muggles. I am not certain of that, but it is my understanding."

Xander, who had woken up at some point during the discussion, Giles wasn't sure when, frowned. "Does that mean we're going to, like, blow up when we set foot on the grounds or something? Because, really not looking forward to that."

Faith rolled her eyes. "Xan, if that was going to happen, they wouldn't be asking for our help. They aren't going to ask us there just so they can kill us," the brunette said, then shrugged. "Well, they probably aren't."

"Thanks, Faith, that's really reassuring," Xander said, but before he could ask anything else, Vi spoke up. She and Dawn had become good friends over the past year or so since Vi had become an active Slayer, so the redheaded girl stayed with the main part of the group most of the time. Since she wasn't whiny or annoying like certain other potentials turned Slayers, none of the others minded.

"What will the students be told? I mean, about us."

"The truth, I suppose. Or near enough. They will be told that we have been brought in to deal with the vampire problem. It's a wizarding school; they're probably used to the bizarre. And, to them, we probably will be the bizarre. Some of these students will know little if anything about or world. They've never been in the Muggle world, so they may find us rather fascinating-"

"Or they may hate us on principle, seeing as we aren't like them," Faith said, a sour look on her face, but she didn't say that she refused to go or anything.

Giles sighed yet again. "Well, be that as it may, they are still just children, some of them as young as eleven, and they need our help. Therefore, we will help them."

The others slowly nodded. "When do we leave?" Willow asked.

"Tomorrow. They need us there as quickly as possible. We will be flying to London, then going to a place called The Leaky Cauldron. It's charmed, but since Willow is a powerful witch in her own right, she should be able to see it easily. Once there, we will meet with one of the professors from the school, and he will take us to Hogwarts by portkey to meet with Headmaster Dumbledore. I'm sure he, Professor McGonagall, and Professor Snape can give us any information that we need," he said, and because his back was turned to the group, he didn't see the look of shock that crossed the face of one of the people in the room.
