Synopsis: A response to the “20 minutes with Graham” Challenge. Grahm Miller finds that his life may have an even bigger purpose then ridding the world of demons?

Distribution: Any of the lists I post this story on obviously can post it on their archives if they want. Other then that I would appreciate if anyone asked first. Not because I am picky about who shows it, but I would like to actually see where it is going.

Authors Note: This is a response to the “20 minutes with Graham” Challenge. The challenge was basically to spend 20 minutes writing Graham in a crossover situation. I decided to take the challenge and came up with this story.

Soldier Graham Miller ran through the jungles of Brazil in search of his prey. He had become separated from his unit in the impending firefight but he knew he was close to his target. A Slayoth demon nest had been feeding in the nearby village for almost a year. Using the victims bodies to lay eggs as their numbers grew.

Agents Finn, his wife Samantha, and himself were to head up the unit assigned to eradicating the threat. After a month of tracking they finally found the demon nest. But their foes were waiting for them and a battle ensued. Agent Miller caught their leader abandoning his nest and was in hot pursuit.

After a quick chase Graham had his horned enemy cornered. The demon looked back. While Riley or Sam would be prone to making a quip before disposing of them, Graham was not either of them. He fired his weapon and without a word the demon fell.

Graham reached for his C.B. to call his unit before a blinding green light out of nowhere engulfed him. The soldier looked up to see a blue face seemingly floating in the light.

“Graham Miller.” the voice said, “You have been chosen for the most important battle of all.”

Before he could respond the demon hunter found himself being lifted off the ground.

“This isn’t good.” Was all he thought as he felt himself being flung into the sky.

He wasn’t sure what happened next but the soldier swore he saw the stars sail by him. The next thing he knew the light was gone and Graham was staring at a large podium. Several men towered over him in it, each looking like the blue skinned person who brought him there.

Graham didn’t know what these demons wanted but he was sure it wasn’t good. He instinctively reached for his pistol having dropped his riffle when the light engulfed him earlier. Before he could reach it a green ray came from beside him and pulled it away.

“You won’t be needing that.” A female voice said to the soldier.

He turned the direction of the voice and what he saw amazed him. Before him was a female all right, but it wasn’t any kind he had seen before. It was at least three feet taller then him, with a disproportionate body and a yellowish tint to her skin. Beside her was an array of what Graham could only describe as things. The soldier immediately associated them with demons but something wasn’t right about that. They didn’t look like demons he had seen before but they clearly weren’t human.

They also worse similar uniforms, green and white with a symbol Graham didn’t recognize. Each with rings that apparently were able to shoot the ray that got the gun away from him.

The demon hunter looked back at the blue skinned men who were clearly in charge. “Who are you?” He asked directly, “What is this place?”

“This place is the planet Oa, Grahm Miller, and we are the Guardians.” One of them answered.

“The what? What do you guard? And why did you take me? I have allies in trouble.” He said in an even tone that still showed his disgust.

“We have a more important issue to discuss. You Grahm have been chosen for a most important destiny.”

Back on Earth, Riley and Sam were finding themselves pinned down with their fellow soldiers dropping like flies.

“Our intelligence didn’t report there were so many of them!” Riley told his wife.

Sam let off a few shots before ducking back behind the rock that was barely providing cover from their energy blast. “If we don’t find a way to turn them back soon sir. We’re in trouble.” Was all the answer she could give.

Suddenly as if by answer a green flash came across almost blinding them. The soldiers looked up to see someone standing before them. The man was wearing a green uniform with what looked like a lantern symbol on it. It took them a minute to realize it was their fellow soldier.

Before they could respond Graham held out his hand and a green ray came from it knocking one of the demons to the ground. Another demon came for him but before it could move Graham put up his hand again and the demon froze in place, a green light enveloping him. The monster then shot forward knocking into his remaining demon brethren.

Miller squinted and another beam formed, this time forming a circle around the monsters. Then suddenly it closed, trapping all 5 of the demons together into a tight loop unable to move.

“Miller?” Riley said in shock. “Is that you?”

“Affirmative Sir.” He answered as he put down his arm, the demons still remaining trapped.

“What happened to you?” Sam asked, “And how did you just do that.”

“It’s a long story.” Was all he managed to answer. He had no idea how the events that just happened would affect his service, or what he would do now that he knew there were far bigger threats to the world then the demons he hunted. But two things were certain; he was now a Green Lantern and his life had just changed forever.
