Disclaimer: I do not own Buffy The Vampire Slayer, or The Mask
Xander stood and looked out over the water. It was one of those rare days on the hellmouth when nothing happened. After spending most of his hours with people, either preparing for an apocalypse or resting up after stopping one, he liked to get away. As he stood there, he watched something floating up to him. He bent down and looked. It was a type of mask floating on seaweed. He thought for a second, then shrugged and put it in his pocket.
As Xander neared the Magic Shop, he noticed it was getting dark. He sighed and walked in. “Hey G-man.”
Giles sighed. “Must you continue to call me that?”
Xander grinned. “Need any help.”
“Compared to what we’ve been going through, boredom is a great experience.
Giles adjusted his glasses. “I can’t believe that you’re actually making sense to me.”
As it neared time for Buffy to arrive before her nightly patrol, Xander sat and sipped a soft drink. As he did, he started feeling slightly strange. He pulled out the mask and flipped it to the backside. Transfixed, he only vaguely noticed a green shine to it as he turned it over in his hands. The he brought it to his face and yelled as he started spinning around and bouncing off of things.
Giles ran in, and got knocked back.
When the spinning stopped, a figure stood there wearing a yellow suit. On it’s head was a hat with a green feather. The face was green.
The figure paused, then opened his mouth. “Noooooo. But if you ask real nice he might hear you.”
Buffy and Willow walked in at that point and stared in shock. “Um... Giles?”
“Don’t look at me, I’m confused too.”
The figure touched the brim of his hat. “Well, I’m off to explore the town.” Then he spun out of the shop.
“Research time, Giles?”
“Give me a minute.”
A group of soldiers from the Initiative of which Riley was a member of were roaming through a graveyard. Riley hadn’t told Buffy anything, but they knew he was in love and ribbed him about it constantly.
“Group 1 to base. Slow night tonight.”
“Understood, keep moving.”
As the soldier started to reply, a yellow spinning something bowled them over.
“Excuuse me... could you direct me to your leader?”
The soldiers stood up and pointed their weapons at him.
“I’ll take that as a no.”
They fired, and watched in shock as a giant bubble looking like bubble gum started to form at the end of each gun. Then the bubbles blew and they went flying every which way until the strange stuff caused them to stick to something.
Buffy walked through a minute later, and stared in shock at various costumed people hanging at random angles struggling to get free of some substance.
Xander woke up the next morning with a headache and a desire to dance and sing.
As he stumbled to the bathroom, he noticed something on the desk. Then he remembered.
“Xander, you’re just in time. We need to figure out what a figure with a green mask was doing here.”
Giles adjusted his glasses. “Yes, and where were you anyway?”
“We don’t have time for Jokes. We need to figure out what type of demon it was. Here...” Buffy tossed him a book. “Read.”
Xander shrugged. “Ok. But don’t expect a book report.”
