“Come on, Giles! Let me win you something.”
“Really Buffy, is this quite necessary?”
Sydney and Jarod observed as the petite blonde dragged the older man over to a gaudy dart game amidst the loud carnival. Both enjoyed the carefree attitude and obvious love between the unknown pair.
“That’s family,” Jarod whispered.
“Indeed.” Sydney turned back to the problem at hand. “Jarod, you must exhibit great vigilance. The Centre is very determined to bring you back.”
“I know, but the information you just gave me will help.”
The little blonde won and was cheering loudly, much to the embarrassment of her friend. Then she chose the biggest stuff animal possible, one shaped as an owl with glasses. The owl stood as tall as the girl. She teasingly bestowed the stuffed owl to her friend.
The Brit took off his glasses and cleaned them with a handkerchief. “Really Buffy. Please don’t.”
Jarod paused and motioned to the mismatched pair. “I wish that we could leave the Centre behind and walk in their shoes for a while.”
Neither saw the stranger until she said, “Wish granted.”
And until that point in time, Whistler had not realized that the PTB’s could curse.
