And all for the Want of a Horseshoe Nail…

“I’ll get it!” Dawn screamed.

She opened the door.

“Can I help you?”

“I’m here to see Buffy.”

“Hold on. BUFFY!!!”

Buffy stood up and walked over, Faith and Willow on her heels.

“Yah?”

“He says he’s here to see you.”

“Do I know you?” Buffy asked.

“Yes.”

“Okaay…”

“Oh sorry. I’m Draco Malfoy.”

“Could you tell me how I know you?”

Buffy was getting impatient

Draco was at a loss for words when the light bulb clicked in his brain.

“Sure.”

Buffy crossed her arms.

He took a step forward…and kissed her.

Willow gasped. She put her arm out to stop Faith from murdering Draco. She could feel the magic swarming around them. And she decided to tap into it. Suddenly all these images filled her mind. They were the same images running through Buffy’s.

She saw Buffy falling through the crypt, getting taken into the house, running away from the house, running back through the rain, her healing, her meeting with Spike, and how she fell in love with Draco. Willow tore herself away and she smiled, freaking everyone out. But if Willow approved, then he probably wasn’t evil. Buffy broke away from him and gingerly touched her lips.

“Did all that…really happen?”

“You still don’t remember?”

“Oh I remember, I just can’t believe it.”

Willow stepped in. “It’s true Buffy.”

“How do you know?”

“The way I always know.”

And Buffy believed her. And so did Draco. And so did everyone else.

And Buffy smiled. She jumped up and kissed Draco again.

“Buffy!” Dawn screamed.

Buffy tore herself away and followed her pointing finger.

There was a white entity in the living room, and he was clapping.

“Spike!” Dawn ran towards him, but he put up his hand.

“You can’t touch me.”

“Just came to tell the slayer congratulations and to say hi. Hi.”

He walked over to Draco. “You got a good one mate.”

Draco stuttered out his thanks and Spike disappeared.

Faith broke the silence. “Well that was….odd. Who’s up for some cake?”

Buffy pushed Draco in the direction of the kitchen and grabbed Dawn.

“This really was the perfect birthday.”

Dawn smiled and hugged her sister while whispering in her ear.

“He’s got a heartbeat…right?”
