Summary: A response to the Sanctuary Challenge. After several particularly challenging battles, Willow and Dawn travel together to find themselves and to grieve the loss of their friends.
Prologue: Willow's DiaryLife goes on. That what every one says… it’s true, as I’ve seen hundreds of times. Unfortunately Dawn and I have seen too much in our short lives, it has aged us before our time. The past couple of years have been one of the hardest upon my soul, even more so than my Darth Willow stage… I need a break from my life… it might not have been the hardest time we’ve had (that would have been Glory through the First) but we’ve not had a proper break and it’s taken its toll. I’m not the only one… Dawn too… she still hasn’t recovered from her sister’s third and final death. Spike and Angel are in agreement for once, and have told us to take time off to find ourselves and are funding our trip. I should be packing now, but I can’t help but reflect upon the past.
It’s been about three years since Buffy died. It was in the battle for LA… our two groups had a falling out. I was communing with the earth I sensed the evil that was about to take place there. The Scoobies and half the newly activated slayers decided to check it out, just in case, and that’s when we saw Angel, Spike, Illyria and a dying Gunn about to face a hoard of evil. I won’t go into the details, they are still too painful, but half the slayers we brought with us died, including Buffy and Kennedy. But that’s not the worst of it; apparently the Senior Partners of Wolfram and Hart had other plans because the day after the battle the world seemed to change… Vampires have legal rights now… which is just weird… slaying them became illegal… in a way I’m glad Buffy didn’t have to witness this it would have killed her. Several of our slayers ended up in jail because of that nasty law, now most slayers are bounty hunters or legal executioners.
Life was quiet for a while, and then some demons decided they don’t like this new world all that much and decided they wanted to use The Key to return the world to normal… they couldn’t just ask to borrow a cup of Dawn’s blood, oh no its “Lets bleed her dry.” It was Glory all over again. We lost Xander and Illyria during that time. It took us almost a year to convince the demons that Dawn’s blood was best in her body where it belonged. It was during this time that I finally agreed to teach Dawn magic. She’ll never have the power I have or even what Tara had, but she’s not bad, she excels with teleporting—probably because of the fact that she was The Key.
Dawn’s at the door, I guess I better get ready… I am looking forward to this trip, a chance to finally relax.
