Buffy and Willow were having a much needed cup of coffee, away from the screaming of a hundred teenaged girls turned Slayers.
“Willow, if we didn’t get away from them, for even a few minutes, I was going to snap at them worse than when we were fighting the First. I‘m beginning to think having every Slayer activated wasn‘t such a good idea in the first place. Were we ever that bad?” After the stress of fighting the First Evil was over, Buffy felt she was able to relax. In a complete change of character for her, she apologized to everyone for the way she had been behaving. She really wanted to apologize to Xander, but 2 weeks after the destruction of Sunnydale, he left them. Claiming he needed time to mourn Anya. That was 2 years ago. He kept in touch, by cell and e mail, but they missed their “Xander shaped friend.”
“You’re right, Buff. You know who could’ve handled all of them with little problem?”
“Xander.” They said at the same time. They both felt that if Xander were with them, everything would be alright. They were about to continue when Willow’s cell phone went off.
“Please hold for a Mr. Alexander Harris.” Willow was about to tell Buffy who was on the phone, when Buffy’s phone went off.
“Please hold for a Mr. Alexander Harris.”
“How are two of my favorite girls in the world?”
“XANDER?” They both yelled in their phones.
“Do you know any other one eyed demon hunters?” The girls giggled.
“NO!” They both said at the same time. They could hear a hesitation in his voice. Willow put on her ‘resolve face.’
“What’s up, Xander?”
“The sky. Airplanes. Birds.”
“Xander, tell us now.”
“Yes, Mistress Willow. When we last talked, I was in a cab going to see Cordy. Afterwards, I crossed paths with Lorne. I hummed a little for him to give me an idea on where to go next. He told me he read a vamp attack in Vegas. I discreetly got a room in the Montecito, and went looking. I gambled during the day and hunted at night. I found and dusted him the first night. Did you know there are cameras everywhere in Vegas? Twenty for every square inch as a matter of fact. The security guys saw me and offered me a job.”
“You’ve been working security in Vegas? I guess it’s kind of pointless in asking you to come back to help us with the Slayer School, huh?” Buffy was kind of hoping to guilt him into moving to Cleveland.
“Sorry, Buff. No can do. Look the reason I’m calling. I’m calling because I met someone out here and we’re getting married.” There was silence on the other end of the phones. “Hello? Wills? Buffy? Is anyone there?”
