Rating: FR 13
Pairing (if any): Xander/Sam (friendship)
Disclaimer: I own nothing. I bow down to the better skills of Token and Whedon. I only hope to provide some entertainment for others.
Summary: Xander’s point of view on one of his new found friends in this strange land he finds himself in. Time frame; Fellowship of the Ring, and pre-season Seven. This will cover several points in the LOTR trilogy.
I never would have thought that I would find myself in a war like this. Only it isn’t a real war. But I don’t mind it. I just agree with Sam.
This weather is too cold. But then again I did grow up in Southern California. I’d probably think their summers are cold.
What? Oh great! The crazed White Wizard who isn’t so sparkly clean is trying to take the mountain down on us?
I’m very cold now. But I’ll hold onto Sam to make sure he doesn’t get knocked down this mountain, it’s a long way down.
I just heard that Sam left with Frodo. I wish I was with them. I’m worried about them. Sam has only known the life of a gardener. Frodo? Well, he’s just as innocent as Samwise.
“Let’s hunt some Orc.” That’s what Aragon says. Boromir is dead. He died trying to save Merry and Pippin. I need to help. I can help. I’ve fought before. One thing I’ve learned about Hobbits, they may be child-like in so many ways but I fit in with them. I need to protect them now. Need to save them.
Sam really is alive! I talk to him, telling him how glad I am he’s alive. He looks so upset about what happened. He tells me about Gollum. About how he never trusted him, and I couldn’t help myself, I laughed at Sam.
He looked so angry. So I told him about Deadboy, and how I hadn’t trusted him. I had been right to keep my guard up, and so had Sam.
“But Xander, maybe Mr. Frodo wouldn’t have sent me away; I could have protected him more… I promised Gandalf I’d look after Mr. Frodo,” Sam said babbled in a way that made my heart hurt a little, reminding me of Willow.
“Sam, you did what you could Sam,” I gave him a slight smile. “Let’s go see if he’s awake... Hmm?”
I offer my hand to Sam, realizing what a heart of gold this hobbit has. I’m lucky to know him as a friend. The universe needs more hearts like this out there; I think it makes life sweeter just to know them.
