Summary: You can't run away from the past...
Notes: Just an idea I've had for awhile...
"Whatever happened to that thing where we wanted to sleep, for like, a week?"
Rupert Giles, currently the highest ranking official in the Watcher's Council (meaning he was one of the few that wasn't blown up or killed by the Bringers), rolled his eyes before looking over at Xander Harris. "I'm not the one that wanted to do that, I'll have you know. That was Faith's suggestion. And if I remember correctly, you, Willow, and Buffy wanted to go to the mall. As the mall has been destroyed, that certainly isn't an option. This, however, is."
Dawn Summers pursed her lips, then tilted her head to the side. "You know, I've never been to England," she said, and Willow Rosenberg sighed, running her fingers through her red hair, a thoughtful expression on her face.
"I have. Though it really wasn't much fun last time. What with me being really, really screwed up and all," she said, then arched a brow at Giles. "Would we be visiting the coven?"
Giles shook his head. "Actually, no. This is another group of people I've become acquainted with, though they are witches and wizards. One of them is actually an individual I had in mind to help you last year, but I decided that it would be best to use the coven instead," the Watcher said, and Willow frowned. She'd never known before that Giles had thought about having someone else help her.
"Really? Why'd you decide not to use this person?"
"I thought it could be a bit uncomfortable for you. My, um, my friend happens to be a werewolf. I thought that after all you'd been through, and after your experiences in the past with werewolves, it might be best not to ask him to help."
"What experiences with werewolves?"
Xander shot a look over at Kennedy, who seemed to think that simply by virtue of her being the oldest of the newly activated Slayers, that meant she was automatically a part of the inner circle. Xander kept hoping that Willow would lose her patience and render the girl unable to speak, or that perhaps Buffy or Faith would just knock her senseless.
"If they wanted you to know, they would have told you," Faith sneered before anyone else could respond, and Xander realized with some surprise that it appeared that Faith might actually know about Willow's experiences with werewolves - and not just the dating Oz thing. Something about the look in the brunette Slayer's eyes made it seem as though she knew the whole story, including the bit about Veruca trying to kill Willow. Of course, Willow and Faith had spent some time together on the drive from Los Angeles to Sunnydale a few weeks earlier, so perhaps the two had bonded a bit then.
Kennedy glared at Faith. "Well, I just think-"
"You have yet to show any evidence that you ever think... About anyone other than yourself, anyway," Xander spat out, then turned to look at Giles. "Okay, so your buddy is a werewolf. What else do we need to know?"
"He's also a wizard, and he is part of a group that is trying to keep a very dark, very powerful wizard from rising to power. This wizard was thought to be gone, having lost his powers about fifteen years ago, but apparently he has come back, returning about a year ago. Those within the magical community wish to pretend that he isn't back, but he is-"
"How can you be sure of that?" Kennedy demanded to know, and Buffy threw a pillow - hard - at the other girl's face.
"Will you shut up and let Giles do the talking thing? He usually explains things pretty well," the blonde Slayer said, turning to look at Giles expectantly. After a moment's silence, the Watcher began to speak again.
"It seems that a ritual was done to bring him back to his full strength. Two teenage boys were present at the time. One of them was killed, but the second managed to find a way to get away from this wizard. This wizard is said to be the most powerful and feared dark wizard in centuries. His name is Lord Voldemort-"
"Moldy-what?" Buffy sputtered.
"Voldemort," Faith clarified before Giles could do so himself. An odd look was on the Slayer's face, as if she were trying to decide whether or not to say something else, and after a long moment, she took a deep breath and spoke once more. "What about... What about his followers? What about the Death Eaters?"
They all turned to stare at Faith, as if surprised by her question, Kennedy sputtering about 'what the hell are Death Eaters', Dawn adding an 'ew, gross', before Giles finally spoke. "According to what I've learned, most of the Death Eaters that managed to stay out of Azkaban - that's the wizarding prison - after Voldemort disappeared have once again joined him."
"And the ones that went to Azkaban?"
"The ones that are still alive... They've broken out. It seems that a few years ago one man broke out, but according to my friend, that man was actually innocent of the crimes he was accused of. His name is Sirius Black. The others, however... They are almost certainly guilty, as it does appear that they have joined up with him again," Giles said, eyeing Faith carefully as he spoke, and after a long moment, Buffy finally asked the question that was more than likely on everyone's minds.
"How do you know about this, Faith? The Voldy-shorts or whatever, and his Death Eaters. Which is just a nasty name, by the way."
Faith was silent for several seconds, the brunette Slayer looking down at her hands for what seemed an endless minute before she finally looked up at the others, her expression guarded. "My Watcher. The first one," she said, referring to the woman that had been killed by Kakistos so many years ago. "She always thought it was best to be prepared. If there wasn't a body, there was no proof that this guy was dead. And even with a body, you never know. So... She just wanted me to know," Faith said, then got up, heading for the stairs of the townhouse that was making up the temporary Slayers' headquarters. "I'm going to go and pack. We're going to need a lot of weapons," she said, then looked over at Willow. "And one hell of a lot of magic."
