The plane carrying Tony Almeida, Michelle Dessler and Xander landed at LAX. Dale Spalding was watching them from the shadows. He knew why this Harris guy was here, it’s just Bauer’s friend is going to die first. As he was following the CTU guys, he was shocked when the car stopped in front of Wolfram and Hart. Dale was reconsidering how to get rid of this Harris.
Inside Wolfram and Hart, Xander went to the receptionist, but he was fourth in line. When it was finally Xander’s turn, the receptionist recognized him. Well, his aura anyway.
“Hello, Mr. Harris. Do you need to speak to Mr. Angel?”
“I’m here to see Mr. Gunn actually. Has there been any change with Ms. Chase?”
“Sorry, but she is still in her coma. I’ll call Mr. Gunn and let him know you’re here.”
“Thank you.” Xander left while the receptionist made her call. He took a seat in one of the chairs while waiting for Charles. After waiting a few minutes, Charles walked up to Xander. Noticing his suitcase.
“Hey, Xander. How have you been?”
Xander stood and shook Charles’ hand. “I’m doing alright, Gunn. I want to hire you. I’m in a friend’s will and I want to make sure everything goes smoothly. Also, I need a room for a few days while I’m here.”
“Sure, no problem on both counts. I’ll get someone to help you with your bags. If you haven’t heard, Spike is here.”
“Yeah. Is he still harping about closing the Sunnydale Hellmouth?”
“The next time he does, ask him if he’s willing to do the same thing in Cleveland. If he says no, just tell him to shut the Hell up.”
Charles Gunn smiled at that statement. Spike had been going on and on about closing the Hellmouth, telling him another one became active would be priceless. Someone from Guest Services arrived to take Xander’s luggage to a suite in the building. Xander was shown to a room and given a key. After the person from Guest Services left, Xander turned to Gunn.
“Can I see Cordy?”
“Sure. Then we can find out what your friend left you in his will.”
“Let’s go then. It’s 10:30. After I see Cordy, you can take me out to dinner. We’ll go first thing in the morning to see what was in that will.”
The walk to where Cordelia Chase, Seer to Angel, Queen C of Sunnydale High Class of ‘99 was a quiet one. Xander didn’t know what he would say to her when he saw her.
When Xander saw her, she looked so vulnerable. Except for that time she got run through with that rebar, that is.
“Oh, Cordy. I’m sorry I never got here sooner, but I was busy. I know that’s not no excuse, but it’s the only one I have.”
Xander couldn’t take it any longer. He wanted to remember Cordelia Chase for the vibrant woman she was. Not the shell she is now.
Xander had seen a lot of things since getting involved in the fight against the darkness. There are very few things that can upset him anymore. Seeing a friend of his in a coma is really upsetting. Since there is nothing he can do to make her better.
Xander was leaning back against a wall, when Charles Gunn saw him with his shoulders slumped and, to the lawyer’s shock, Xander was crying.
“Hey, man. You alright?”
“Yeah, Gunn. It’s just that seeing Cordy like that really affected me. She was the first woman I had any real feeling for, until I screwed it up. It sickens me that she is just laying there and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
“I hear ya, man. Cordy was a good friend. Come on, lets get something to eat, then come back here. I have booze in my office. We can trade stories about Cordelia.”
“That’s the best thing I’ve heard today. When we return from dinner, I’ll tell you why I’m in town.”
Xander and Charles left the offices of Wolfram and Hart to have dinner. An hour later, they returned. When the lawyer and his client entered the private office of Charles Gunn, Xander told him the story of Jack Bauer and Xander’s friendship to Bauer.
