Getting a job


Double drabble – 200 words exactly


Hermione attempts to get a job with the Council after both the First and Voldemort are defeated.

Giles leant back in his chair. Opposite him Hermione sat straight, eagerness written all over her face. She was desperate to become a Watcher for the new Council now Voldemort was dead.

“Look, Miss Granger-“

“Hermione, please!”

“-Hermione, are you certain you know what you’ll be doing? This is-“

“Oh, I know! I can look after myself: I helped defeat Voldemort and his Death Eaters after all, and I was top of the year in most classes as well.” She had gone back to Hogwarts after the final battle and managed to get some of the highest NEWTs on record.

“Actually, Hermione, I was going to say that this job is mostly research and training, not so much about actual fighting – not now there are so many Slayers.”

“Oh, I know, but I’m very good with books and I believe I could be a benefit here – after all, I did do well in charms, transfiguration-“

“Yes, Hermione,” Giles interrupted. “Very well, you’re accepted.”

“Excellent. I…”

As Hermione went off into a speech expressing her appreciation Giles leant back and prayed that he would be able to avoid her. She could talk vampires to death easier than he could stake them!
