“Lieutenant Dallas, how is the Summers case coming along?” Commander Whitney asked as she stood in his office.

“Not good, sir,” she answered hiding her frown. “It’s a dead case.” And not even priority, she added mentally.

He nodded. Sipped his coffee. “You’ve been ordered to let it go.”

“What?!” If her head had snapped up any faster she would have suffered from whiplash.

“The case is closed. The order came through this morning. Straight from the President of the United States.” He watched her with sharp eyes. “Do you know anything about this?”

“No, sir.” But she could guess.
