She had expected this to come. She should have known it would come sooner rather than later. Kaylee stood in the doorway to River’s room demanding answers from her. Answers she wasn’t sure how to give.
“Who’s Tara?” Kaylee asked rather shortly.
“Tara was my girlfriend,” Willow answered truthfully.
“Was? As in you were dating her when you ended up here was? Or was as in you and her broke up a while ago?”
“As in I fell asleep in her bed and woke in yours,” she replied.
“Were you going to tell me this ever?”
“I would have eventually but I still had a glimmer of hope that I may have gone back to Sunnydale again. After the first week, this ship replaced Sunnydale as my home. You became a part of my life… it just slipped my mind.”
“A lot seemed to slip your mind.”
“What do you mean?” Willow asked confused.
“You can teleport? You’re that powerful?”
“Kaylee, leave her be,” River ordered as she appeared behind them.
“River,” Kaylee said in shock.
“No Kaylee. No fight. Not yet. Stay out of this for the moment.”
“I don’t think that this concerns you River,” Kaylee said again.
“She’s too fragile to deal with this now. Let her be. Talk to Simon, calm down,” River explained before pushing Kaylee out the door and shutting it behind her.
“Why is she so harsh? I’ve never seen her like that…” Willow asked in a bare whisper.
“She’s scared that Tara still owns your heart, doesn’t see you gave up home to be with her. Give her time.”
