“Madame President. I expected you to find me for a private word. What can I do for you?”
“Commander Adama, you can tell me what exactly you meant by that ‘magic word’ fairy tale in the Life Station.”
“It’s not a fairy tale.”
“Oh, suddenly it’s truth?! And I quote: ‘there’s no Earth. It’s all a legend.’ Sound familiar?”
“That was before.”
“Before what exactly? Before we lost almost two-thirds of our water to a Cylon bomb? Before we used up half the fleet’s fuel reserve? What *precisely* changed your mind?”
“You’re angry. I understand that.”
“You under- ”
“Do you know the difference between a lie and a legend, Madame President?”
“Apparently there’s not one!”
“The difference is… intent to mislead. A lie is a story you tell knowing it’s not possible. A legend is a story that might yet be true.”
“And what do you call whatever you said today? If it’s not a legend and I assume you’re not telling me you lied…?”
“A chance.”
“Excuse me?”
“These aliens are our chance. If they’re from Earth and they know the way home, we may not be the last of the human race. And that’s worth a chance.”
