“You’re where?!” Jack shouted into the phone; their search for Dr. Jackson over the last day had really gotten things going. The NID as well as extra SGC personnel had been hurried into the area to prevent a security breach as well as to find the most-wanted man in America. “What are you doing in Winslow? Where IS Winslow?”

A moment later, noticing it as six, Sunday morning, “Alright Daniel, we’ll send somebody for you. Glad you’re alright.”

“Carter, contact base and let them know Daniel just called from Winslow, Arizona.”

“How’d he end up there?”

“Apparently, a girl in a flat-bed Ford slowed down to take a look at him…it was Harris, Carter, jeez…” He handed her the information as to his specifics. Harris left him at some crater nearby, mumbled something about catching the next space ship home and that was six hours ago.”

Lawyers and Marshals took over the matter, the primary search personnel ordered to step down and return to their home bases and facilities. The media and the Wolfram & Hart public relations machine had already painted Harris as the victim, and hoped he’d soon give himself up in order to clear himself. But the SGC folks, as well as the Sunnydale veterans knew they might have seen the last of the boy.

Buffy broke up with Angel that morning; he’d said something particular annoying about Xander, and ever since being ‘Joxor’ for the night he hadn’t quite been able to keep his mouth shut. Luckily he was still a good fighter, the reflexes and speed of the vampire clearly shrugging off Joxor’s clumsiness.

Buffy had also seen him sneaking glances at the devastated Willow, her best friend and crush gone just like that.

A surprising number of people were not particularly happy; investigations of the entire police department by State and Federal authorities continued to churn up controversy. Samuel Trautman was on the phone in the library, browsing a book on famous vampires and beginning to realize a few things about the town, when he noticed an incoming call.

“Sunnydale High School Library,” he responded politely but noncommittally after asking the other party to wait.

“Hey, Sir,” a young voice but with extremely familiar voice patterns answered, “It’s been a while.”

“John? I mean, Alex?”

“Yes sir, it’s Alex. I needed to let you know that John was…with me and helped me out. You don’t have to believe it, but he wanted you to know before he left. Well, thanks for everything, especially for Oregon and helping me, him, get back on track. It was a hell of a ride, sir.”

“Sam, Alex, call me Sam. Any chance of you coming back?”

“I have all his memories in my head, I know, you don’t believe it, but I do. SO I have a couple things I have to do.”

“Anything I can help with?”

“What do you know about vampires, sir?”

“I’m reading a book aout famous ones, and getting an uneasy feeling, Alex.”

“Yeah, turn to William Ragsdale, got it? That’s the one that got John last week. He took out a bunch of the bastard’s minions, but he didn’t know until too late what the hell he was fighting, sir. Spike killed him. Has bleached-blond hair and is in town with his nut case girlfriend.”

“Seems like a nasty character.”

“He is. If I come back some time, I’ll finish him off for John.”

“I could help you. And I can help get you off the hook.”

“I don’t know sir, too many of the men I, I mean John, trained became casualties. It’s confusing. But you’re retiring in a couple weeks, right?”

“Yeah, why, want to go fishing?”

“No sir, but John left everything I don’t have on me or in hidey-holes, to you. I’d like it if you could befriend Mr. Giles and help my … family find and dust John’s killer.”

“How do you know I won’t turn vigilantes in to the police.”

“Ask Angel to show you his vampire face?”

“Summers’ boyfriend?”

“Pissed off some gypsies, crammed the soul back into the vampire to torment the demon. Too bad they torment the soul as well. Dust him only as a last resort. Any way, I want you to look after them, and help them protect a town that others don’t.”

“That’s a lot to ask.”

“Think about it?”

“I will, want to talk to any of them?”

“No, just tell Rupert John and I both trust you. And that the Hyena isn’t an issue. He’ll understand. Sir? Good bye, sir.”

“Bye John…Bye Alex.”

Okay, there IS a sequel. There first part is very short, but the others will be half about 'Alex Rambo' and the rest about the goings-on in Sunnydale. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
