He listened to the lyrics of the song as it played and smiled softly.  They were so true.  It was the first time in his life that he had fallen in love.  He had been terrified of falling.  The truth was, he was still afraid.  Elliot was so far removed from anyone he had ever met.  The man cared for him and wanted him. 



You know love is everything you say
A whisper, a word, promises you give
You feel it in the heartbeat of the day
You know this is the way love is

 

Xander had been wanted in his life.  Wanted for what he could give others, what he could bring to their lives and for the pain they could cause.  Only Willow had ever cared for him for who he was and not what he could give her.  If anything she had been the one to constantly give in their lives.

He was still getting flashes of the lives that he had lived and loved Elliot in.  In each one they were denied the right to marry and grow old together.  The few times that they had had children together, their children were killed when they were.  Xander was confused as to why this had happened to them, but he knew that they were meant to have met this way in this life. They had always been lovers and friends, bo matter what else life had planned for them.

How far a heart can fly away

 

When he was alone after the dates that Elliot had taken him on he had had to fight back the urge to cry.  Xander was still convinced that Elliot deserved better than Xander, but at the same time he couldn’t take it if Elliot suddenly realized it as well.  Elliot’s love was freeing for Xander.  The small part of him that had spent years needing reasons why he needed to go on was getting quieter and needed reassurance less frequently.

It was amazing and humbling when Elliot saw him dance and hadn’t pushed things beyond a soft kiss.  It warmed a part of Xander that had been cold since childhood.  He knew that no matter what happened in the future he had found someone to love and cherish in this lifetime.  He wasn’t sure if he would live through what came with Livia or any lost hope that could be coming, but he was looking forward to the chance to find out.  For the first time in his life, Xander hoped.

When he awoke now it was Elliot he wondered about first thing, Elliot that he wished to see.  Elliot made him feel safe and happy.  His mind said that he shouldn’t get so close to Elliot, but his heart wanted nothing more than to bond to and love the man who was slowly healing the hidden wounds inside of him.  The fact that Elliot had seen his scars and still wanted him, humbled Xander and made him love the man more.  Perhaps someday soon he would be ready to bond to his mate.
