SUMMARY: Xander has never had the best home life. What happens when a long lost relative finds out? Crossover with SG-1.

Disclaimer: BtVS belongs to Joss Whedon and Mutant Enemy. Stargate belongs to MGM and SciFi. I don't know any of the recognizable characters (Jack O'Neill, Daniel Jackson, Xander Harris, Willow Rosenberg, etc.) I'm not making any money from this; this is just for fun. No copyright infringement is intended.

Author’s Notes:
1) This will involve a Jack/Daniel pairing in subsequent chapters. Possible other pairings will be added down the line (probably also slash). I haven’t decided yet.

2) Thank you everyone for all the wonderful encouragement and constructive criticism. I’ve given them serious thought and have tried to incorporate them where possible, such as adding this Prologue to help set the scene a little better and tweaking Chapter 1 a bit. Please keep them coming. I hope you enjoy. Chapter 2 will follow shortly.

Prologue – The Importance of Family

O’Neill House Interior
Colorado Springs, CO
Saturday, February 28, 1999

Jack O’Neill enters his house and throws his keys on the table by the front door. He rubs his eyes tiredly and expels a huge breath. He heads immediately for his kitchen and a bottle of beer. Opening it, he takes a long gulp emptying half the bottle and proceeding into his living room, sits on his couch and puts his feet up on the coffee table. This past week has been one of the more difficult ones of Jack’s life, which considering the life he’s led is saying quite a lot. Stargate Command was invaded, again. Reetou rebels sent a team to wipe out humans so the Goa’uld won’t have hosts. Thankfully, a child and his “mom” came to the SGC to issue a warning, which allowed the rebels’ plan to be thwarted.

‘It’s funny,’ Jack thought, ‘how one person can turn your life upside down. Here I am going along happily thinking I’ve dealt with my issues about Charlie’s death, when the kid shows up and proves I’m full of shit. It’s like I told Danny when we first came back from Abydos “sometimes I can forget.” Well, that is until “Charlie” – God, he took my son’s name, how fucked is that? – had to go and dredge up the memories by showing up and nearly dying. Well, it did get me to talk to Sara some more about Charlie, our Charlie. It’s been almost three years since Charlie died and maybe, just maybe, I’m really starting to deal with it. One things for sure though, family is important.’

SGC, Cheyenne Mountain

Monday, March 1, 1999

After having a heart-to-heart with Sara, his ex-wife, and mulling it over, over the weekend, Jack decides it’s time to clear the air with another family member.

“Hey, Daniel. Feel like taking a little trip this weekend?”

“Oh hey, Jack. Um, I’m not really in the mood to go fishing,” Daniel Jackson, Jack’s teammate and best friend answered. How the somewhat geeky, pacifistic archeologist and linguist became the Air Force Special Operations Colonel’s best friend, Jack still couldn’t explain but Jack being Jack, he didn’t question it; he just accepted that he was.

“I didn’t mean fishing. Not everything with me is about fishing, ya know.”

“No, I know Jack. There’s also hockey.”

“Wow, you so get me,” Jack says with a grin. “Seriously, I’m going to see my sister and her kid in California. Thought you might like to tag along.”

“Why?” After a pause, where Jack looks a little lost and says nothing, Daniel adds “I mean if you’re going to see family, I don’t want to intrude.”

“You wouldn’t be intruding…Okay, look I haven’t seen my sister for about ten years or so and with everything that’s happened lately, I thought maybe now would be a good time to mend some fences or whatever. I could use the company…and the support.” Jack adds the last part in a whisper.

“Sure, Jack. I’d love to go with you. When do we leave? Oh, hey, there’s this museum I’ve been wanting to visit...” Jack just rolls his eyes thinking ‘of course, there is.’
