The Christmas Secret

“Is Santa real?” India asked her mother as she was tucked into bed, Her wide blue eyes were curious.

“Of course he’s real!” Willow exclaimed. India looked doubtful.

Though she was raised a Jew with Buffy and Xander and well, everyone she hadn’t really paid that much attention to that part of her.

Most of them did the Christmas thing and so had she.

“Why do you think Santa’s not real?”

The four year old bit her lip, nervously playing with her hair.

“Lexy said that Santa wasn’t real, “the words were whispered, “She said it’s just a lie to get bad kids to listen…”

The girl in question Alexia (Lexy) Stanford was a bully and took great measures to make sure that India’s life at school was less than pleasant. The school she went to was for children who had preternatural parents. Lexy’s father was an Animator and her mother a dentist sensitive to magic. The brunette haired child thought India was below her for having a parent that was a vampire.

“Lexy is a big dumb ass” Jason remarked coming inside the room, Willow shot him a glare.

“No she isn’t,” she looked back at India, “She’s just confused.”

“Santa is real?” India asked again looking this time to Jason, the wolf sat at the edge of the bed.

“Of course he is! I’ve seen him!” he puffed out his chest looking pleased; “In fact Santa told me…” he trailed off, giving her a doubtful look. “Well it’s a secret” he sighed in mock disappointment.

India perked up, her blue eyes widening, “What he say?” she asked, Jason looked at Willow and she hid a smile.

“Well I don’t wanna say” Jason looked torn, “If he found out I told you, well...it would be bad”

India smiled, “I promise I won’t tell” she promised, “I’m good at keeping secrets”

Jason considered her for a moment before sighing, “Alright I’ll tell you”

He leaned in and shot a scandalized look at Willow, “Cover your ears” he ordered.

With a roll of her emerald eyes, she did as he asked.

“Santa told me…he was going to give you a new baby to play with” he whispered to the four year old.

She gasped and leaned back wide round eyes going to Willow, “Really?” she asked tiny hands covering her mouth as she let out a little squeal.

“Yes, but ssshhh” Jason looked at Willow, “Mommy can’t know yet…it’s our little secret”

The five year old grinned wider, “I promise”

He kissed her cheek as she snuggled into bed, Willow removed her hands from her ears and kissed India on the tip of the nose, “Go to sleep and tomorrow I’ll take you to see Jean-Claude and Daddy” India nodded snuggling into her bed covers.

“Is Nathaniel taking me to see Anita like he promised?”

“Yes” Willow answered standing, “Now sleep…or else Santa won’t come”

The two left and Willow smiled at India as she snuggled into her princess covers settling down for the night.

Willow closed the door turning to Jason, “What did you tell her?” she asked.

He shrugged, “Nothing”

Willow opened her mouth to say something else, when Jason’s watch made a noise. He leaned in and kissed her softly.

“Marry Christmas”

Willow grinned kissing him again before taking his hand and leading him to the bedroom.

Merry Christmas indeed……
