Character Interaction by Queensarrow
In Life's name and for Life's sake, I assert that I will employ the Art
which is its gift in Life's service alone, rejecting all other usages. I
will guard growth and ease pain. I will fight to preserve what grows and
lives well in its own way; and I will change no object or creature unless
its growth and life, or that of the system of which it is part, are
threatened. To these ends, in the practice of my Art, I will put aside
fear for courage, and death for life, when it is right to do so -- till
"So.. That's the oath all wizards take when the become wizards." Nita explained.
"That's why we don't use any other titles when we refer to ourselves."
While Xander, Prue, and Boromir were looking at her with varying levels
of respect Snape scoffed.
"As if a child could understand what they just swore."
"That's mostly true, but if they didn't they would after they survive their
Ordeal. Only a fraction of new Wizards survive that first call to errantry."
"What's that?" Prue asked, she hadn't liked the look on Snape's face and
wanted to keep trouble to a minimum.
"What?" Nita asked.
"I think she means the quests and missions that wizards go on." Garth answered for
Nita. Garth also didn't like the way Snape was behaving and approved of the
younger woman's attempts to keep Snape from talking, or more likely ranting
from the biased professor.
Unaware of the effort to keep Snape from damaging their working
relationship Xander spoke up. "So you can actually speak with the higher
"I'm SO hungry!" Mihoshi exclaimed.
"You just ate my lizard." Xander remarked.
Truthfully Xander didn't mind so much. It tasted too much like weird
chicken. But the point was that she had eaten something. Also had several
serving of breakfast if he recalled rightly.
"I'm still hungry." She pointed out. Mihoshi didn't mind the weird
foodstuff, as a Galactic Police officer she had encountered much weirder
"You do realize that we need to stick to the rationing? We don't have the
supplies to last for the rest of the journey otherwise." Garth replied.
"Hm... maybe we should stop and hunt for a while." Reaver said.
"Not that you would be doing any of the work." Boromir said with a glare
at the blond fop. Reaver hadn't really done much of the camp chores ever
since the travelers showed up.
"Shoo!" The sharp order Kasumi gave was so unusual in the experience of
the group that nearly everyone turned to see what was up.
Mihoshi was frozen in surprise. Mihoshi seemed to have made a pest of
herself. The dark smoke wafting up from the pot she was holding indicated
what had Kasumi upset.
"Go wash up," Kasumi ordered. She took a deep breath and tried to find
her center again.
"But, I can fix it!"
"Please, you have done enough." Not quite the calm, quiet, polite Kasumi
they had gotten to know, but well on the way back.
"Dinner will be a bit delayed." She informed the rest as Mihoshi sulked
to the river they decided to camp near for the night.
No one really noticed the smirk Mentia had.
"Hmm... there's a translator built in here." Nita remarked, she was
handling the ball lightly. It was fascinating, the spell matrices were
woven tightly and very beautifully patterned. "The spell ribbon hooks
straight into the planar module."
"What?" Xander asked.
"Basically it downloads the language of the next universe, that really
helps when the next person we pick up would use a different language."
"How do you know the translator works?"
"I'm sure you noticed that when Kasumi speaks the words and movement of
her mouth aren't in sync." Snape said. Evidently the ball was taking up
most of his attention, as that was said without his usual sneer and the
sarcasm was mostly absent.
Boromir, Rufus, Conner, Reaver talk training and trade war stories.
"I don't see how you can trust that guy." Conner said referring to Reaver.
"I don't." Garth stated.
Reaver tries to kill garth, garth activates the ball.
Garth looked up from where he fell.
"That very interesting trinket, hand it over." Reaver commanded.
He cocked his gun and aimed. The pounding on the door adding an urgent
quality to the scene.
Garth deliberately activated the ball by tapping it against the floor.
The flash of light was somehow a complete surprise.
"Pentagon of the five Elemental Powers..."
The Academy of Tristain's second year class ritual of summoning a
familiar was considered a sacred and holy rite. The creature summoned
forth would be with the magi for life. It was considered a show of power
"...bestow upon me your grace and grant this summoning..."
Most of the class had already summoned their familiars and were waiting
rest to finish. There were a few who hoped that something unusual would
happened this year like it last for last years class.
"..to send my Familiar forth!"
Blinking Katie looked at the animal she had summoned. It was generally
similar to a cat, it stood about the size of a full grown wolf,
but had the incomplete look of something without its full growth. Still,
whatever it was it looked impressive.
Then the others arrived. Landing in a heap, they appeared without
fanfare. Several exclamations of pain let her know that this wasn't
planned. The loudest was a young man with a slightly older woman kneeling
in his crotch. She was apologizing profusely if the tone was any
A slightly glowing ball rolled from the group and gently bumped into
Katie's foot. She bent down and picked it up, noticing that as soon
as she touched it the words of the group became understandable.
Anyway, Familiar of Zero doesn't belong to me, I'm using it without permission.
Since it appears in several types of media, several different
companies have the rights to it.
