Duncan MacLeod sat down at a table in an open air café. As he nursed a cup of morning coffee, he read today’s newspaper. He did not look up when the dark haired young woman sat down next to him.

“I remember you,” she said to Duncan without preamble. “We fought once, a long time ago. I challenged you to a battle to the death. You were a thunderstorm wielding lighting like a blade. I was tooth and bloody claw, victorious a thousand times over. We agreed that no matter the outcome, we would not fight each other again. And we have not. Down through the ages we have worn different faces and every time we met, we always walked away from each other.”

A look of desperate longing came over the woman’s face. “After all this time, I have to know,” she said almost desperately. “Who won?”

“Dana!” someone called before Duncan could answer. The woman shook her head as if waking up, then turned to see a young man walk up to her. “Dana,” the newcomer said again. “You know you’re not supposed to wander off like that.”

“Sorry, Andrew,” Dana mumbled, standing up.

“Now, c’mon,” Andrew said gently, leading Dana away. “We’re gonna be late. You can flirt with the good looking man later.”

“What man?” Dana asked in confusion as they left Duncan’s presence.

After they were gone, an older looking man with a cane hobbled up to Duncan. Duncan looked up from his paper as he sat down.

“Hey, Joe,” Duncan greeted. “What’s up?”

“Hi, Duncan,” Joe replied. “I see the MacLeod charm is still working, but wasn’t that girl a little young for you?”

“What girl?”
