Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters
Westchester, New York
"Come in Logan," Charles Xavier called out before there was even a knock.
"I still hate it when you do that," Logan replied as he entered the office and sat down.
Charles smiled. "Glad to see you have returned safe and sound. Did you find what you were looking for?" he questioned.
"I didn't find much but still more than I expected to be honest. Apparently I was James Howlett back then and was seeing a girl, Rose Lilly Johnson. I thought you could do a bit of your technical know how and see if you can find anything for either name? Maybe find the girl? I was there a bit under 20 years ago," Logan told him.
"Give me some time and I'll see what I can do. It shouldn't be that hard to find something now that we have a name as a starting point. Did you find anything else?" the professor asked as he booted up the laptop on the desk.
"Only that we were heading for California for some reason, possibly LA. I thought I'd come back here first to see if you could give me something to go on once I got there. I mean it's been nearly twenty years, not much chance of just heading there and asking around expecting to get lucky in a city that size. I got lucky in Canada, small towns, few people, but LA, that's a whole new ball game," he informed Charles.
"I'll see what I can do. I'll call you if I find anything."
"Thanks Chuck," Logan replied as he stood and left the room
1 hour later
"Damn Chuck, that was quick even for you!" Logan exclaimed as he walked through the door.
"Well with two names and a possible city to look in it wasn't very hard at all," Charles replied. "I just put your names through city records for Los Angeles and it brought up all relevant information," he explained.
"Well, what did ya find? Anything useful?" Logan questioned, he needed to know what type of life he had before it all went to hell.
"You might want to sit down Logan. There are a few important things you need to know."
"Just spit it out Charlie," he returned but sat none the less.
"Ok, Rose Lilly, the young woman you were headed there with, I found a record for marriage. You got married about a year after moving to Los Angeles, and less than a year after that-" he stopped, unsure of how to tell Logan that he had a son, whose life he completely missed out on.
"What? What happened?" Logan demanded while standing up.
"You had a son" he told him gently.
"A son?" Logan dropped back into the chair behind him. "I had a son."
"HAVE Logan, you HAVE a son. His name is Alexander and he's 17, today in fact."
"Still in LA with...my wife?"
"I'm sorry Logan, she died in a car accident 6 months after Alexander was born and he was adopted," Charles explained.
"What? Adopted? I must have disappeared by then, no way would I let my kid get taken away from me," he insisted. "Where is he now?" he demanded. "I need to see him."
"Are you sure that's such a good idea Logan? I mean he would have no clue who you are and he may not even know that he's adopted to begin with. How are you going to tell him his life has been a lie and that he is most likely to be a mutant? You really need to think things through a bit-" he trailed off as he saw Logan's claws were popping in and out subconsciously, a testament to how unnerved Logan was by things. One thing was clear, however, Logan was going to find his son.
"Sunnydale, California. It's a small town a few hours drive from LA. He is now Alexander Harris."
"Address?" he asked shortly
"I'm afraid not, his parents-" he stopped at the growl from Logan's direction, "-adopted parents," he corrected, "have just sold their house, no new listing, but Alexander is still registered at the local high school again no new address, so they would still be in Sunnydale."
"Then that's where I'm headed. I have to see him Chuck, he's my kid."
"I understand, I hope everything works out," Charles told him. "Feel free to tell him about the school. He may need to come stay." At Logan's look he continued, "Many mutants come into their powers in times of emotional stress. Finding out you are adopted and all that entails would no doubt be enough to do it."
