Twisting The Hellmouth Crossing Over Awards - Vote
CoA Voting Update

News Archive

Well, another year has past, and the ritual updating of the target on the Fic-For-All page has been completed. Wonder if we'll make it this year?

Fic-For-All targets aside, its been a busy year at TtH. In the first three years of the site's existence, between you, you read a total of 14 million chapters of fic. In 2006 alone, you read 25 million, which co-incidentally is also the total number of words in all the chapters posted during the year. The site currently attracts 100,000 visitors a month, over one third of which are from outside the USA, and we serve 350,000 pages a day. For 2007, we plan to wave bye-bye to the server that has run the site for the last 3 years and upgrade to something a bit faster - more on that later in the month.

Of course, we wouldn't get visitors at all if you didn't keep posting such great stories to the site. Now, let's see if we can avoid me having to type "2008 stories in 2008" a year from now...

You can now add a story to more than one category.

You can choose secondary categories when adding your story, or when editing the details of an existing story. However, you should only add secondary categories if your story really does feature significant crossovers with another fandom. We do not, for example, want to find a Stargate story with Harry Potter as a secondary category because Dumbledore makes a brief guest appearance in Chapter 30. Here are some more examples of when to and when not to use this feature:
  • If you are writing a BtVS / Stargate crossover story that features characters from Firefly in a significant portion of the story, put it in Stargate General as the primary category and add Firefly General as a secondary category.
  • If you are writing a Supernatural / Highlander crossover that does not involve BtVS, put it in Supernatural Non BtVS/Angel fics as the primary category and Highlander Non BtVS/Angel fics as the secondary category or vice-versa.
  • If you are writing a story or series of drabbles where every chapter is a different crossover, put it in Multiple crossovers and do not add secondary categories.
  • If you are posting the first 3 chapters of a Roswell / BtVS Crossover that you know will become a Roswell / Smallville / BtVS crossover in chapter 10, only put it in the Roswell category when you first post it, and then add Smallville as a secondary category when you actually post chapter 10. You may wish to consider posting such a story as a series with chapters 1-9 and 10 onwards as separate stories. Whether or not you should do so depends upon whether the two halves could be read independently.
  • If you are writing a Harry Potter story where a Willow pairing and a Buffy pairing are both central to the story, you can add it to more than one sub-category of Harry Potter, but you should only do this when multiple pairings are the central focus of your story; do not add it to every sub-category for every pairing that appears in the story.

The general guideline is only add a secondary category if people who just read stories in that fandom will want to read your whole story.

If you have stories in Multiple Crossovers at the moment where secondary categories would be a better fit for your story, please move them (don't leave them in multiple crossovers and add secondary categories, pick one crossover as the new primary category). If "Mutliple Crossover" is a better description of your story as it involves lots of fandoms or is a drabble series, leave it where it is.

'Tis the season to appreciate the authors of TtH!!!

So - dig deep in your hearts and review, review, review. From now until the end of the month, let's give our authors the Gift of Reviews!!!

Find some new stories to review. Or go back to old favorites, re-read, and leave another review with more things that you found you liked the second time around.

Remember - give the Gift of Reviews this holiday season!

Now - a word of warning from me to everyone on the site - authors and reviewers alike.

We don't tolerate flaming. It is up to moderator discretion as to what is considered flaming and what is not. We try not to be heavy handed about it, but some things just push the limits at times.

Authors - you can be guilty of being rude just as much as a reviewer. Don't get pissy if a reviewer leaves you a question or a comment that wasn't 100% positive. Leaving rude remarks for a reviewer can get you kicked off the site just as quickly as flaming a story can.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!

I've made a few enhancements to the RSS feeds on the site today to fix some standards compliance errors in the news feed, and to add new feeds to allow you subscribe to stories that are added to a particular series.

For more details on the available feeds, and ideas on how you can use them, see the RSS Feeds & Syndication page. For example, did you know you can add a list of the latest stories to your google homepage? Or add the latest stories from your favourite category to your live journal friends page?

Unfortunately, we have recently learned that Mercedes Lackey has a policy of not allowing fanfiction to be posted on the internet except in approved fanzines. Therefore, in a week we will be removing all Merecedes Lackey fics from the site and she has been added to the "not allowed" list in Rule #3.

If you want to make a backup copy of your story, please do so now. If you have any questions you can contact us.

I am also notifying every author I locate that has Mercedes Lackey elements. This includes multiple crossovers. Several of you have a drabble collections posted. In that case, just remove the drabble and/or chapter that references her work. The rest can remain.

Thanks...

Hey guys!!!

Now the the holidays are approaching and we're all getting ready to shop like mad... remember when you're buying through Amazon to use our links!!! We get a percentage of each sale for use with doing things like our VERY MUCH NEEDED upgrade to the server. Let me say that again - VERY MUCH NEEDED upgrade.

Remember you don't have to actually buy the product you clicked on - you can search / browse their site and buy something else. It's also ok if the product is sold by one of Amazon's partners - as long as it is bought through the Amazon website, we still get commission. However, don't save your products in a basket and come back later to pay - they keep all the money if you do that. Also note you can't see anywhere during the checkout process that a commission is being paid.

We even get credit if you buy a GIFT CERTIFICATE

For those that haven't looked at their site for a while, they sell a lot more than books & dvds - anything from gourmet food to spare parts for your car.

So - click on one of our Amazon links at the bottom of the page whenever possible for buying online to keep yourself in fanfic!!
