2007 Twisting the Hellmouth Holiday Fic-A-Thon

Do you want to spread the holiday cheer this season by giving the gift of a crossover fic?

Then sign-up for the 2007 Holiday Fic-a-Thon and give the gift of a story in return for getting one of your very own.

Signups End: November 30th, 2007
Assignments Handed Out By: December 3rd, 2007
Assignments Due By: December 31st, 2007

Minimum Word Count: 1000

Look at the signup form carefully and choose as many as you think you can write and/or would want to read. It is VERY difficult even with smaller fic-a-thons to organize wants vs. what people can write. That will be especially so with this fic-a-thon. Yes, some characters are missing from the signup form. We did that ON PURPOSE to limit the number of combinations. Still, there are alot to choose from.

Sign ups are now closed. The assignments should be out to everyone by December 3rd.

Note on the Harry Potter Fic-A-Thon:

Due to real life issues with both of the moderators running the Harry Potter Fic-A-Thon, it has been postponed until early next year.

For the month of November we're going to have a challenge theme in place. We encourage all of our writers (and readers, too!) to participate, be it in drabble form, fanart form, ficlet, fic or full length epic style novel (especially because it's National Novel Writing Month).

Anything crossed with BtVS/AtS will work (within site rules, of course).

The theme?

Family: The good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of family. Some prompts for inspiration are: death in the family, kidnapping, birthday gathering, birth of a child, in-laws, an unusual request

So, get those creative juices flowing. Remember that the FFA is still going on, too. Combine two site events and use a pairing from the FFA in a family-related environment to kill two of those birds with one little bitty stone! Fic For All

When you write a fic for the November challenge, post as normal just make sure to mark it as a response to a challenge fic. That way we'll be able to keep track -

Happy Writing!

We have just 200 fic-for-all's to go to reach our target of 2007 by the end of the year – that's about 2 a day.

For those unaware, the FFA is an attempt to write stories featuring 2007 different crossover pairings. You can browse the available pairings to write here. The stories don't have to feature romantic pairings – you just have to feature the couple in quesiton.

You can post an FFA response just like any other story; simply choose the pairing when adding the chapter. Having responded to a request, you then get to add a pairing for someone else to write.

So come on, how can you not write Clem/Princess Fiona, D'Hoffryn/Ned Flanders or, on a more scary note, Ethan Rayne / Boss Hog!

EDIT: Wow – 100 down in just three weeks! Although, I see Clem's love remains unrequited...

You may have noticed that the total number of words in your stories has dropped. This is because we've implemented a new algorithm for counting words that is a little more accurate. It also in many (but not all) cases is able to ignore words in headers / author's notes. The old method tended to over-estimate the actual number of words, which means that overall there is about an 8% drop in the reported size of the stories on the site.

There have also been a number of improvements for those using mobile phones / PDAs to access the site with improved layout for story lists, automatic detection of more hand-held browsers, and the choice of site layout for registered users is now saved between sessions separately for each different browser.

Now that the dust has settled from the release of Book 7... it's time for a little BtVS/Harry Potter inspired fun.

TTH100 UPDATE

In an effort to involve more people in the TTH100 LiveJournal Community, we’ve extended number of people that can claim a character, pairing, season, etc.

So, if you’ve been waiting for a claim to come available, go snag it now! If you know anyone that wants to play – invite them over!

TTH100

When you only have time for 100 words...

And there are plenty of other Twisting the Hellmouth LJ communities:

TTH100_2

Same concept as TTH100 but with a different prompt set.

TTH5000

Premise: There are twenty prompts and each prompt needs to be answered in at least 5000 words.

Twisted Shorts

Premise: Quite simple, once a week a Buffy/Angel crossover challenge will be given for a ficlet or short one-shot 300-3000 words. The occasional challenge might have a time limit (example the 20 minutes with___ TtH challenges) or a specific word limit.

TTH Drabbles

Premise: New challenges are posted on Sundays by one of the mods. Responses to each challenge can be posted until the next challenge is posted. You may post a drabble (100 words) or a double drabble (200 words) in response to the challenges.

And, as these are Twisting the Hellmouth communities, it should go without saying that they are all Buffy (or Angel) crossover communities.

Happy Writing!
