In truth, I'm surprised that X and F did as well in the look-alike contests as they did. The image that the conventioneers have of them is so skewed from reality (I can't believe that I actually am able to type that with a straight face!) that it isn't even close. Faith is NOBODY'S sidekick! =] Although she has a pretty good one herself, along with a killer roundhouse kick, axe kick, and that doesn't even touch on her punches. =D

Having been to a Star Trek convention and a Xena convention (yes, I am coming out of that closet now), I have to say that I laughed out loud over this story. It was so REAL. Especially the "Faiths" who should never have even considered wearing leather pants, much less leaving the privacy of their own homes in them. I also am sure that there WOULD be at least one Buffy group, another more Faith-centered group (not as a sidekick, but maybe the "dark warrior in search of redemption" thing?), a Willow group (can you even imagine that one? Uberwitch vs. Super-hacker, which is the REAL Willow?), a Giles group, and probably even a "Souled Vampires" group and/or "Werewolves and the witches who love them" group. I hope that your muse will allow you more on this subject, even if you don't want to touch "Las Vegas" (the show) again. CSI (the original) is also in Vegas, you know. =]

Thanks for the kind words. As other follows ups -- I've got some thoughts ... have to see if they'll make stories.

Ha! I just finished my comment for the latest chapter of the Alias crossover, how I was looking forward to the next crossover and hoping it was a fandom I was familiar with and then I saw this!

I'm kinda semi-familiar with the show Vegas, though I don't watch it regularly. I actually don't see Sam as getting into being that physical, but I could see her - should she get that physical - having coordinated designer brassknuckles to match all her outfits (and shoes!). But she's not exactly a nice person.

I don't think I've seen the episode you reference, btw. Ed has always been ... uneven in his characterization from my POV; I don't see him as really evil, at least in the Las Vegas continuum of behaviors, but I've never really been able to get a handle on who he is or how "not exactly evil" he is.

But Danny ... Danny's a tarnished white knight. It hurt to watch Danny sail across the room unconscious like that. *ouch*

On the other hand, the XLH Doppelganger Society with the Faith Auxillary (or whatever it's called) was ... so far beyond simply surreal that it surpassed mere humor and took on a feeling of reality. At least, it's no stranger than the average live action role-playing game. Or any of the other weird convention groups that CSI (the original) features in the occasional episode.

Still not as weird as an SF con, though. *g*

What was priceless and wonderful was the bit just before the ending, where Xan and Faith are comparing notes about their convention experience. The whole "what number did you come in in the lookalike contest" conversation, and Xander being advised he did his own limp "all wrong" - and the pair of them wanting to find similar groups for the other Scoobies (and I can't help but wonder at some of the oddball contests that would occupy those conventioneers - the polish glass to a high shine Giles-alike contest, the Buffy malapropism contest, the 101 things to do with a Willow magicked pencil contest, etc, make me so want to be in the audience). Lots of fun.

And yet another glimpse of the Xander method of being a Watcher (the "lecture" given to Rachel - hee!), always welcome.

ps ... I just reread this after posting it and wanted to let you know, I'm neither offended by the Vegas characters' depictions nor trying to defend them or whatever. Just ... babbling. Which I do sometimes.

Thanks for your kind review....
No offense taken at all but FWIW the incident with the limo, including the driver being punched and Sam beating up the passenger was taken directly from the show. In fact, that was the incident that gave me the idea for the payback plot.

I don't know that Ed is evil, but he put Sam in touch with the enforcer so he started the chain of events. Danny, well, wrong place, wrong time, but as they say, lie down with dogs...

Best, Litmouse

Very funny. And I loved the idea of a doppleganger society and Xander and Faith doing so poorly in the lookalike contest.

But I was hoping for some mention of the last time he was duplicated, back in S4 or S5.
Comments from author:
Doh. Don't know how but that completely slipped my mind. Maybe next time.

Oh man, that was beautiful. And considering I've never even seen the show it's based on, I thought you did a great job at conveying the whole set-up. Excellent job.

Good fic. The double convention was hilarious; Faith's sidekick remark nearly made me tear up laughing. Ethan Rayne using the Xander-shaped form to scam the casino, that was truly chaotic evil. Did he use Giles's shape already?

In my opinion you went overboard with the violence. Retaliating violently to the unprovoked attack is one thing, beating someone up as punishment is quite different, and somewhat out of character. Handing the attackers over to the police would have been meaner, err, more sinister.

Still, I had fun reading this.

Thanks for your review.

See your point about the violence, but I don't think the LV cops were really an option. First, lowly limo driver's word against big shot casino execs... not promising. Generally, slayers, cops, unmixy things. Overkill for the single punch in the face, but I sort of saw it as karmic payback for all the times they'd got away with it before. Show kinda pissed me off, to tell the truth.

Regardless, thanks for your interest, glad you enjoyed the convention.

LOL, hilarious fic.
I loved the over the-top Xander-convention.

And while I admit watching Las Vegas for the creative schemes the bad guys come up with and how they are caught, I agree with you on the lack of morality of the security guys to threath every winner as a criminal, and their disrespect for peoples privacy.
Comments from author:
Thanks.

I can see that, but I'd always be rooting for the guys trying to scam the casino.

I Laughed and chuckled thinking about the folks from Las Vegas getting into the same type of trouble that they were causing. It would be interesting to see more interaction between Ethan Rayne and Las Vegas. Or a fallout chapter when Ed finally figures out from his CIA contacts who Xander and Faith actually are.
Comments from author:
Thanks for the comments. Maybe some more Ethan sometime, but I think I'm done with Las Vegas (the show)

OMG, I laughed my ass off reading this!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, this was a fantastic story and I'm hoping we see a follow-up showing us the analogous Buffy, Willow and Giles groups! PLEASE!!! ;-)

I also really enjoyed the mention of something metallic glittering in Sam's mouth and the way X&F decided that they needed to ruin everyone else's day because of the way the Montecito crowd ruined their friend's day. Like they say, payback's a bitch, and Faith is certainly the Supreme Bitch when she wants to be. ;-) I also agree with you about not feeling the least bit bad about trashing the Vegas characters since they certainly aren't the best role models I've seen offered, and Sam especially is a nasty, scheming, backstabbing bitch.

In any event, thanks for a great story and I hope to see more stories along this line in the future. ;-)

Have to think about the other Scoobs groups, but I've got some thoughts.

Completely excellent! And a worthy follow-on to the apocryphal tales of Buffy and Xander from "Loyalities"

Loved the way the real Faith and Xander could only manage 4th and 5th in the look-alike contest...
