Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from TheatricalBarrister
Review:
Well, I finally got around to finishing up reading this, and I've gotta say you did a great job. I had sort of assumed throughout the story that Faith being there was some evil plot (or at least part of the plot), and was pleasantly surprised by the way you ended it.

I'm not an expert on Roman history, but I have done a fair amount of research lately on the differences between the Roman and Greek versions of the gods, and I'm glad that you presented Jupiter and Juno in a somewhat positive light. The Roman versions were definitely way nicer than the Greeks. Mostly, the Roman versions weren't really like the Greeks at all, but Roman poets decided to appropriate a lot of the myths about the Greeks to come up with some ripping stories to tell about their gods.

Thanks for the great story.

Thank-you for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed the story.

I get most of my god info from www.godchecker.com an amusing and interesting site. I so much prefer the old gods to these johnny-come-lately ones you find now-a-days!

All the best,
DaveT.

Review:
Wow...crossover with Killer. Didn't see that one coming, and you pulled it off splendidly. I was pleased to see Faith get some novel treatment: neither homicidal maniac nor reformed do-gooder treatment that seems to have become the norm. I thought the last chapter was a great touch. I'm curious to see who gets roped in for the sequel.
Comments from author:
Thank-you for your review; and yes I know what you mean about the way a lot of people write Faith. This story has given me the confidence to try other stuff with our Faith so we'll see how it works out.

the sequel i about half written but I've come up against a bit of a brick-wall plot wise we'll keep pluing on!

All the best,
DaveT.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from jennzabelle
Review:
Oh, awesome! I loved the action and the sauropithecus and Octavian as a book-toting introvert. And to end it on the Ides of March... especially after the fakeout with the tavern of the same name! Very nice, indeed. I liked Faith giving in to Marius' desire for marriage after some proofs of devotion and her automatic assumption that he wouldn't want her if given an out. I liked Mama Fidelia as well. I'll bet she's kickass at keeping discipline and I'd love to see her with as many children as the mythical Niobe, swatting and hugging and explaining what she remembers of the future as fairy tales or bedtime stories. And *Thank You* for including the point about 'well, what else would I do?' and Octavian's response. (I tend to think that's part of the reason you hear so much about prostitutes in the Bible - they're the only women out walking around and having independent lives, the rest are 'properly' homebound. Seriously, if you have to be reincarnated as a woman in the Ancient world, pick Egypt. Better than Rome and *Seriously* better than Greece.)

Even though I haven't seen "Rome", I do know a bit about Roman history from this era and I found your historical details delightful and engaging. Your pacing was good (the ending did feel a bit abrupt, but the gap in time for the epilogue helped correct that) and your writing flowed very well. Your supporting characters were well drawn and took up just the right amount of attention. The only problems I saw were typos in some scattered punctuation and some unintentionally (?) homophones, and they weren't distracting enough to take away from the vividness of your tale. Thank you for writing and posting this!

Thank-you for your detailed review.

if you ever get the chance to see 'Rome' take its great TV.

Ancient women; I think you need to add Sparta to your list...the women there had to run the place while the men were off fighting.

Typos...well you never get them all, you just do the best you can.

Once again thanks for the review and your kind words.

All the best,
DaceT.

I absolutely loved this story from beginning to end. I'm really not that big of fan of Rome, but this story jut clicked. I have never seen an environment so suited to Faith. She belonged there. You did a great job with the whole thing and I really look forward to your next story.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from (Current Donor)MaxGSandeman
Review:
I'm surprised that Faith wasn't surprised as how she adapted to some of her new life. The fighting came naturely, but falling in love and having children were all new to her; she finally respects herself.
I thought the slayer line went through Faith, so when she disappeared and I guess no new slayer was called, the scoobies would think that Faith was still alive. In a sense, she was but had died about 2000 years ago. All attempts to fine another slayer failed.
I thought that Buffy might not live as long as Faith, so upon her death there was no slayer until Faith died at some old age; some how, there was a connection back in time.
Your story of Faith's early years are more intersting than where I thought you might lead us; well done.

Review of chapter "13: The Epilogue." from LallaBelle
Review:
Wasn't sure at first that I'd even like this story. So colour me surprised when I was hooked after the first couple of chapters. Given that I've only seen bits and pieces of the show (so only knew the very basics of each of the show's characters' personalities...) but luckily enough knew just enough of roman history that I was able to follow the story well enough. Heh, must say very clever thing with the latin chapter titles. I cracked up at seeing the star trek one...

Can't wait to see the possible sequel. I'll bet it'll be fantastic.

(Goodness my 2nd review in one week... this is turning out to be a record.)

Edit: Yes, well I think it's thanks to you for making me curious about Rome that I've now gone and rented the first disc of Season 1.

In regards to whichever BtVS character is in the sequel... For some reason can't seem to picture it being Xander, not entirely sure why but *shrugs* something about him seems ill suited for roman times. Then again people do adapt to their surroundings quickly enough. Either of the Summers girls would be interesting. Willow would definitely be an interesting one, given the fact that she's a witch and all and Romans seem to be a superstitious lot sometimes... Giles I'm sure would fit in in some way or another, given his education and all. All in all, whichever character it ends up being, I'm sure it'll prove interesting either way *grins* especially when they meet up with Fidelia.

Now your all starting to make me think "How will I follow this?"

Well we'll try.

thanks for the review, and if you ever get a chance to see the two ROME series jump at it!

Cheers,

Review:
Wow. I've never even seen Rome, and I really enjoyed this. It was a great ride. The writing was crisp and the situations were intriguing. This would have easily worked as a science fiction or fantasy novelette (if it weren't for the licensed characters, of course.) I'd like to see more of this sort of thing.

It's fun seeing characters in a whole new world, and you did a great job.

Review:
What a great finish! I particularly appreciated the way you worked in the idea of Jupiter/Zeus appearing incognito as a wounded soldier, to check up on Faith's worthiness as a person, and then let him fill in the blanks about how her sudden appearance in the ancient world fits in with what happened in canon (and how it's her reborn, stronger self who'll be battling at Buffy's side when the First tries to make its big move). Love the happy ending for Faith and her family.

I really enjoyed ROME, didn't even have any trouble getting into the second season despite the 2 years or so that it had been since the first.

It's great to see the characters again, in fic form.

Great work.

Review:
Like it, really like that the old gods are putting one in the eye of the powers. In fact I am always happy to see anyone put one in the eye of the powers. It is also good to see Faith gain her self respect.

So if she survives the immediate mayhem, she should do real well, after all she is in tight with Octavian and in his own way a very good guy to be tight with.

I also look forward to the next installment.
