Review:
I read this with a sense of amused disbelief.

I've only seen The Truman Show once, but you wrote a great story here.

All, I can say is the last bit with the product placement received an amused snort.

Very nicely done.

Thanks

Lee

I wasn't sure if the end was over the top or not, but I had to show that even Willow didn't really have Xander's best interests at heart. Thanks for the feedback.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from angrymonkey
Review:
Fun, but kind of depressing. I especially like the steroid comment.
Comments from author:
I tried to figure out something for Willow and Buffy to fight about that might sound plausible. Willow really does love Xander, but by the end of the story you can see she's just as immoral as the rest of the cast. Poor Xander.

Great work !
But I'm, I don't know why, feeling like Infinix "For some reason I feel vaguely dirty after reading this. Interesting idea and well written but it still leaves me with feeling like I've just seen a puppy kicked."

I ever thought "the Truman Show" as little disturbing movie but now ....Brrrrr

Bye
Comments from author:
It gets worse: think about additional incidents where the 'actors' went in knowing bad stuff would happen:

Xander's childhood, with Tony staying on the show after becoming an alcoholic,
the Ampata incident where Xander fell in love,
Graduation Day with the battle and blowing up the school,
Hell's Bells, where they show Xander lies about the future;
the end of season 7 where Xander 'chloroforms' Dawn but she regains consciousness and stun guns him

Yeah, this darn near deserves to be in the 'horror' category. And I didn't even mean for it to go there.

Review of chapter "Chapter One" from Kimera
Review:
This is an excellently written story, however I really hated the premise. I find that it would be extremely cruel to do that to a person. However I find it would have worked better if it was Buffy in Xander's place, since she was the main character in the story.
Comments from author:
The premise was from the challenge, and it definitely skews things with the "main character" having a peripheral role. I agree with you that the way Xander is treated is sick, although I didn't set our to write a story this dark. The Truman Show was bad enough, and they didn't have people dying or being mauled on a regular basis. The further the story progressed the more I realized how morally bankrupt everyone involved with the show would have to be.

Review:
MANY thanks for answering the challenge so well - Really enjoyed that one, especially the ending.
Comments from author:
I know it didn't fulfill the challenge to the letter, but I figured I could pull it off with mostly contemporary technology. As to Ladies' Night in Oxnard: I assumed Xander was drugged when asleep and put in a smaller set somewhere else, then drugged and transported for the return trip at the end of the summer. The story didn't go in the direction I first intended; it's definitely more disturbing and less flattering to the whole cast aside from Xander. I'm glad you enjoyed the fic--thanks for a novel challenge.

Comments from author:
When I saw the challenge I thought, "Hey, this will be fun...cross Buffy with a comedy." The more I wrote, the more I realized that this was even more disturbing that The Truman Show (which I eventually remembered was a DRAMA). To keep going after all the accidents, to put an innocent and ignorant person in those situations, never stopping the show is just sick. When the Buffyverse is twisted this way a lot of our favorite characters come out as fairly despicable people. In my opinion this is the most disturbing story I've written...and I didn't plan for it to be that way!

I had never thought about it before but this works for so many shows
Comments from author:
It does work for a lot of shows, but for Buffy--with all the violence and trauma--it's kind of twisted. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if the first half of the story worked for "show, don't tell" but I guess it came together alright.
