Review of chapter "Chapter One" from banditobane
Review:
Nice, I like this view to Buffy's family problems and Beast has always been one of my favorite X-Men. Don't worry I got the clue that Joyce still loved Hank. I'm guessing your going to put Hank's attempts to find a cure to his Mutation was mostly so he could be with his family.
Don't know about Wills ranting about Mutants when she is Jewish lesbian Witch, might go more in depth about that.
But still a good start and I'd like to see where this goes.
Comments from author:
I'll go more in depth, Willow wasn't ranting about the evils of mutants, it's more worry that they're going to bring even more trouble down on Dawn.

Review:
Hmmm . . .

I've enjoyed hating Hank Summers for so long . . . I'm not sure how I feel about Joyce turning out to be the intolerant, racist baddie who lied to her daughters, convincing them that their father chose to abandon them when it was really her idea to sever all contact.

I like the inventiveness of Hank Summers = Hank McCoy (who was always one of my favorite X-Men, being so furry and intellectual and BIG and comfy-looking!), but this might require re-writing too much of what had happened earlier in BtVS canon (including Buffy specifically stating that she'd tried to reach Hank when Joyce became ill, etc.) before your story begins.

Have to wait and see what happens next, I guess.
Comments from author:
Joyce wasn't racist, but you'll see, it'll all come out in the end. Beast is one of my faves too.

Review:
That's a bit rich of Willow to be ranting about mutants. Sounds like she is in need of a little smackdown. I like this opening chapter.
Comments from author:
Thanks! I know, but I didn't specify what exactly she was ranting about other than Mutants in general.

Review:
I am ecstatic,
1. a completely new concept, that hasn't been seen before.
2. brilliant writing.
I must admit it is nice to see the other side of Joyce, she still loved him and yet was unable to be with him.
Could you imagine the repercussions of having a furry blue husband in a mutant loathing world.
Eagerly awaiting updates chaos xo

Thank you for the compliments! They are going directly to my head and my muse.

Review:
This is an interesting twist on why Hank isn't a presence in his daughters' lives, although I hope you will flesh out Joyce's reasons for cutting off contact. As it stands, it seems a little unbelievable that a woman who would have hot chocolate with Spike would be so intolerant. But I'm curious to see where you go with the story.
Comments from author:
Joyce is most definitely not intolerant! Don't worry, I adore Joyce and would never do that to her. I am already planning on going back to that, possibly in a father daughter talk. I tried to leave a subtle hint that Joyce still loved Hank with the picture of the four of them hidden in her bedside table, but it must not have been enough.

Review:
I'm not sure Willow would be ranting about mutants...unless she thinks Dawn would be in danger (due to newspaper accounts of constant fighting etc?).. but I can certainly see an ugly custody fight. Not a legal one, the scoobs would lose, but emotional fight....
Anya was funny---- would love to see the X-Men encounter the Buffybot, that'd give poor Hank a heart attack.... plus alert the X guys that this is a weird household..
Next questions: Is Dawn a mutant? .... lucky for all that Willow didn't go postal with the magic, will she display the old 'eyes turning black' thing--for that matter, maybe SHE is a mutant & just thinks everything she does is magic..
Nice story idea, usually people make Dawn related to Scott Summers....
Comments from author:
Dawn didn't hear what the ranting was, I'm thinking Willow is more concerned with Dawn's safety because of the world view on Mutants, especially those with physical mutations.

Thanks for the ideas, you are feeding my plot bunnies.

Review:
It's nice to see a change from the usual Joyce - good, Hank - bad. Can't wait for more. Though that last line about Willow - well, she sounds a little hypocritical there. Joyce sounds a little meaner than she was in the show, though its your concept, but perhaps there was more to her dislike of the mutants - bad experience with some of the not so nice mutants? or something. Hopefully with a parent caring for her the way Hank seems to Dawn will outgrown her whiny phase faster and skip the clepto phase entirely.
Am tracking this :)
Comments from author:
Thanks for the praises! I'm not going to make Joyce Bad Hank Good either. People are made up of gray areas. I was trying to convey that Joyce didn't hate Hank by the picture in her bedside table, but I was planning to go into her reasoning and Hanks allowance of it. Clepto phase will be skipped. She only had it because she felt no one could see her and was trying to force them to see her. To admit she was there. Hank isn't going to let her feel ignored.

Nice little twist there and you used a mutant not named Wolverine as Dawn's father...well done, I'm already looking forward to the next part!
Comments from author:
I'm a little tired of Wolverine being the dad too. That's why I was so tickled when I spotted the challenge. Hank McCoy? Hank ... it fit in my mind immediately. I'm working on the next part and will have it out (hopefully) soon.

How is it you keep making me feel better about my writing? Always? BTW you are totally my encouragement to keep writing a novel I've been working on during my own time. Thought you might get a kick out of that.

Review:
Good start to the story, though I have a hard time believing that Joyce was so prejudiced against mutants... (or Willow if the last line in the chapter is right)
But I am willing to suspend belief for a while for a good story. :)
Comments from author:
Oh, please don't suspend your belief!! I love Willow and Joyce far too much to do something like that to either of them!! All will be explained, I promise.
