Very nice chapter, you really know your Forgotten Realms and how the locals are reacting is believable, well how everyone is reacting is believable... ;)

Comments from author:
Well, I've been playing DnD since first edition so I've had time to learn it little by little.

I've tried to keep things as close to accurate to the realms as possible.

Review of chapter "~~ Stacking the Deck ~~" from (Recent Donor)MissingAuthor
Review:
Very nice crew you are getting together. Like how you did Joyce and I hope Tara will be making an appearance. Also you got my favorite Drow too... very nice.

Wispr
Comments from author:
Tara will be around, but perhaps not for some time except in a few appearances.

Drizzt may be a little different from his personality in the books. He is much less mature here and he will have to use his mind to work things through. It will all work out in the end.

Thanks for reading!

Review:
Oddly enough, putting the whole "Ascension" thing aside, the Mayor is a very good leader. He'll be great until that uh Ascension thing. Which is totally not for another year!.
They're going to run out of bullets quick, might want to see about making gunpowder if the resources for same can be found, stuff like that. Meanwhile looks like a major orc attack soon. Poor orcs.
Tara --was hoping you'd have her show up. Hm, Buffy is stronger here. I wonder if Spike & Angel & Drusilla will also gain extra power here? If it's based on age, Angel's been around for quite a while....Dru is already a seer.... etc.
Thought Xander'd sign up for a second there. Maybe later....
Comments from author:
Xander will have his moment in the sun.

I always thought the mayor would be good at his job. He certainly has the experience.

Yeah, the orcs are having a hard time. It will actually get better for them.

I love Tara too much for her not to be there. I'll have to work her in a little more. Her mother was said to have died when Tara was 17, so this should work for the timeline.

Review:
Love how the Scoobies have made the news. I do hope Giles keeps bumping heads with Walsh. She's one twit that needs to be kept in line. Too bad they failed to test what Xan really knows. Hope he gets a chance to surprise people with his innate knowledge. Good to see Joyce helping too. I kinda hope the Mayor never gets back to Ascend, his attitude alone would be sure to confuse and drive the powers in this world crazy. Plus his hidden sorcerorous ways are a boon too. Good to see the D&D crowd mentioned too. Eager to see what they make of the D&D books when they eventually find them. Sooo much potential here, loving it all. Keep up the excellent work.
Comments from author:
More DnD people will be there soon.

Giles will keep bumping heads with Walsh, although her situation is going to be changed somewhat.

Xander is going to have a chance to prove himself very soon.

As for the mayor...we'll just have to wait and see. He hasn't turned over a new leaf yet.

Review of chapter "~~ Grasping Threads of the Situation ~~" from darkblade
Review:
Hmmm... What to start with... First – English is not my native language, so there will be mistakes. Second... at first this was planned as short “good fic, like idea, hope it will be still good” with little addition of “have stupid hope that it’s not only (part of) Ranma cast but also (part of) Negima cast (manga certainly, not anime)”... WAS planned. Plan horribly failed. I for two days had no time (or sometimes will) to write it and by that two days my review is largely changed. I remembered 1632 series by Eric Flint, many topics “city NN goes to past” from some alternate history forums, my attempts to world creation for RPG, some pnp strategic games, FR politics, (A)DnD type magic... And I understood that problem Sunnydale have rivals only by First Evil.

Part 1. Sunnydale is not any way ready for that. And I don’t mean FR, I mean any “out-of-touch” areas. 1632 Grantsville had near perfect self-organization among population, gas wells, working coal power plant, coal mine, coal miners, good working coal miners’ trade union, competent police, good number of competent war veterans, largely armed population, competent high school teachers and principal... this really can go on and on because in most areas Sunnydale either in worse situation by default or Wilkins really rooted it out to have no problem with demon ascension. All that Sunnydale has in + side is not working now hydro power plant and somewhat competent (it’s Sunnydale + it’s Wilkins plot) military base. That’s all. And that’s bad, very bad... because:

Part 2. Food. At one of the first enlarged versions of this review I planned to say “I hope Sunnydale priests will found they power, but not all and no more than level 1-2 certainly”. I take that back, I hope they all found power and no less than level 9 or preferably higher. And star to cast “create food” on all spell slots they can cast it. And do it NOW. Because if not it will really quickly be a “dark fic” like that of “Dies of fire” version of Sunnydale (don’t remember fic name). Already mentioned Grantsville from 1632 had 8 times less population, had most of nearby farmland intact (and it wasn’t Sunnydale little farms), had local population to by food from, had self-organized AND previous government working hand-to-hand on the problem... and they still nearly hit starvation. Sunnydale have nobody to by food in large quantities, have almost no farmland and more importantly farmers and most importantly they don’t DO anything about it. What that executive committee by Wilkins declared was nothing like that... nationalization of fuel reserves for military, medical and agricultural means only was one of the first acts by Grantville government for example... Damn, I feel stupid writing all this really, 1632, 1633 and some other book of the series are free to download from Baen online library... And they are basically a guide for the survival in such situation (and good reading btw). Wilkins really need to do something similar to all that they did to save his power base aka Sunnydale intact. Damn, he is LE by DnD standards, where that all E when it’s needed the most? He NEED to act hard. It’s Sunnydale, people WILL NOT self organize and it’s his doings – he really must understand that... Food uprisings with 40000 population and incompetent police would be scary for example...

Part 2a. Terrace farming in first period is extremely labor intensive. And there are part 3 and 4 where all that labor needed...

Part 3. Power. I’ll be short – either they mobilize all illegal migrants + 1/4 of Sunnydale able population they will not repair hydrostation. Even small hydroplant able to power 40k population city have a sizable dam and they are in need to make it bigger in length right now... And water would fill it really long after that. And they need all that fuel for military and agricultural purposes/vehicles.

Part 4. Cold period. I don’t really remember where they are in FR weather-wize... but what I remember that this place have continental climate and in colder zone than California. Given both of that they need to rebuild most of the living houses (and not only them), build heating systems, make literally tons of winter clothing... Either that or 9/10 of population will die next winter. There 40k population is really is plus (and only there) – they can afford to rebuild dam and rebuild city at the same time. They can not afford terrace farming without using local labor resources though. On other side they can’t feed that local labor recources. Oh, and good that I rereading fic now – building housing for those who stuck in port... Sunnydale really needs mobilization and fast. It’s really good that Wilkins is LE, it’s enormously good that he is... LN would be better though but it’s not important now.

Part 5. Organization of all of that. If 2 CEOs on the yachts in the port are not figureheads or “inner politicians”/buttlickers than they are really the best of what stuck in the port, including tanker, food and Ranma cast. Sunnydale really need some people except Wilkins that can rule big groups of people AND are competent in planning/economics/etc.

Part 6. Magic. Sunnydale is really undefended from FR style magic and mages. And Nerima cast don't help there. Even one low-level wizard with charm spell can wreak Sunnyhell greatly... Somebody under invisibility can for example make fire in the college/school library and it WILL be major blow to the city. And it even if don't go to the old "low level mage under combat invis and fly by his master + wand of fireballs" or charmed demolition specialist + hydroplant thing. And it will be reality because Sunnydale brokes balance of the Realms gratly just by appearance. So they need combat ready mages (and i don't mean ritualists like wikkans) to patrol the city or first mid-level drow raid or interested zulkir or somebody else of enormous number of overpowered by Sunnydale stadart evil mages/mages groups will kill half of city population. You need a crossover like Negima, HP or other mages oriented series or tweaking with series stronger than that i see in ch11.

PS1. Do I need/may to go why this fic really need Negima influx? I want to :) And they really are the minimal crossover group with best results I can think of without going to (demi)gods. And you already said AT LEAST four groups of Japanese student on school trip.
PS2. This fic really need thread on some forum... or newsgroup. If you want it somewhat realistic anyway... It would be hard to talk out some things in reviews.
PS3. Something stupid that I wanted to write – I hope they will not forget to skin dragon... city needs local money from NOT using Sunnydale nonreplentishable resources.
PS4. The best thig which can happened with Sunnydale is a copy of RoF Grantsville moved somewhere near them... but it will ruin the plot. Or would it?
PS5. It should be longer, but I’m lazy for things that I don’t know that are needed. If my further comments needed I’ll be happy to. (including reread of Drizzt series, 1632 series and FR rulebooks for more correct info...)

About ch.11.

>“And no matter what happens, or what Chose you, I do not like the fact that a sixteen year old girl is fighting a war,”

Heh. And again Grantsville better side – they quickly understood that when shit hit a fan everybody who can shot a gun is soldier.

PS6. About XP. Don't play by levels please, even canon DnD books don't do that. + don't do experience = monsters killed please... Even DND pnpRPG can drop it all with good DM (in our curren we do NOT recieve XP for kills)... XP and levels are crutches, fics and books don't need them... Though noting comparatible levels of cast is a good thing for author, just (s)he need to act not solely by it.
Comments from author:
First of all, wow, that's quite a response.
Second, you are absolutely right.

Sunnydale is not ready. Not even remotely. But if they play their cards right they could get some outside help, but they need it as soon as possible.

They are in the Nether Mountains, which is at about the same level as Oslo earth wise. It is going to be very cold and a lot of what they have for plants are going to die unless they get very lucky. Lucky for them, it is early-mid spring, so it will get warmer before it gets cold.

Some of the priests might get spells. Not too many, but some. Yeah, it would be nice if they had more, but too bad. The magical community might be able to help, especially if they team up. Some circle spellcasting should work wonders. Wiccans are ritualists and they can work wonders under those circumstances, but you are absolutely right about the need for magical power.

And you're right, I am not using levels in the fic. And really, it would be impossible to make some characters into level based characters at all.

Thanks for the points. I hope you enjoy the next chapter.

Seems that the mayor runs an efficient administration at any rate. I wonder, when he learn more about Faerun he may go for other forms of immortality?
Comments from author:
Oh, he hasn't given up on it yet. He's a firm believer of paying your debts. He's kept up his end of the bargain, so the demons should keep up theirs.

Review:
I wonder how the FR people will react when they find out the high deamon population of the town and the fact that a great deal of the government including the mayor are evil... working side by side with 'Champions' of 'Good'
Comments from author:
I guess you'll just have to wait and see about the alignments.

As far as I'm concerned, Sunnydalers don't have the same kind of alignments as others.

As for the high demon population in town? It's nothing compared to places like Cormanthor or Ascalhorn, or even Luskan. They'll be surprised, sure, but it's not like it's really that bad and there are places where it is much, much worse.

You have too admit, for a guy wanting to ascend(descend?) to a greater demon, the Mayor is a nice and very polite guy. :)
Great story.

Hey, he was nice even when Angel was stabbing him in the hand. Granted he was invulnerable and evil, but still a nice guy.

Review:
should be interesting to see how they go from a Cali coastal town to a town in the mountains with winter coming. I doubt they have much in the way on heavy winter clothing and trying to find some for 35000 people won't be easy.

hmm if they have Apaches I wonder if they have Predator drones. always nice to have eyeballs in the sky to let you know if you have uninvited guests on the way over.

good story looking forward to your next chapter.
Comments from author:
It's not going to be easy, that's for sure.

I'm not familiar with Predator Drones, I'll have to look them up.
