Good start. Most fanfics assume Buffy would have ripped Xander a new one if she knew about the lie, whether they believe Xander was right or not. I tend to be in that camp myself. But your scenario is also possible; after all, she was no doubt aware of just how close the fight was. I can't wait to see what happens next.

I like this beginning, short & sweet--not thrilled about the easy forgiveness of Xander, but I'll deal if it means no other Scoobies in the fic. A couple notes:
1) Your title is spelled incorrectly (beginning has 2 n's)

2) Buffy is American, not British...she wouldn't call either mother "mum"...she'd call her "mom".

scoobies will play only a small part of this story, and Xander isn't forgiven but she just couldn't come up with the energy to rage at him and hey he did the right thing...

I really enjoyed jedibuttercup's treatment of this same premise ("Can I Keep You?", http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-9273/jedibuttercup+Can+I+Keep+You.htm -- Buffy discovers that Sam Carter is her birth mother, and heads to Colorado Springs instead of staying in L.A. after she runs away from Sunnydale at the end of S2), but I'm sure your variation will be interesting, as well!

Hm. A lot depends on circumstances--since Buffy knows about her 'real mom' then the adoption wasn't a secret, so Joyce is likely a relative of Sam's, who took Buffy in 'cause Sam was too young at the time?...
So.. have Sam & Buffy met before this or does buffy just know the name & address? Could be fun either way.... I wonder if Sam's file shows a kid, she had to have gone through high level security clearances to get into the SGC, so odds are it is known...
Since Joyce didn't know B. was a slayer, Sam is even less likely to know... and B's background doesn't look good: getting into trouble, setting fire to the school gym, now wanted for questioning in regard to Kendra's death etc. Ouch!

yep shall be fun but Sam knows about the slaying... how will the rest of SG-1 take it though? especially jack seeing as he lost his son? *rubs hands in glee*
