Review of chapter "Chapter 1: The Crowning of a Queen" from (Past Donor)Catlimere
Review:
So, I have a soft spot for the Buffy/Methos pairing. Haven't seen that many stories with that particular pair. I love that it's an eventual pairing and gives them a chance to meet and have a relationship develop. :)

Wow, so much going on... first off, love Buffy as the Queen of Slayers. I like that she has control over the line and the ability to remove the Slayer powers from those who don't deserve to have them. (Ok, I like this so much because I'm hoping for an eventual Kennedy smackdown.) I also love that Willow falls under Buffy's dominion due to the spell. Nice that it keeps Buffy free of Willow's magic and gives assurance that Willow won't go back to the dark side. I do wonder if it means Buffy could strip or bind Willow's magic.

I like that Buffy didn't immediately just want to leave them all behind, just because I think she's conditioned to feel guilty for "abandoning" them. No matter what they'd done before, she's always pretty much owned her part of the problem and sucked up their attitudes. ( I have some lingering Scooby issues. lol) I liked Whistler's reasoning though. I could see if Buffy stayed, the group eventually deciding to "pension" her off somewhere so she wouldn't be on the Council or influencing new slayers.

Love the idea of a male slayer line, the Defenders, set to deal with human evil. If I'm reading correctly, that's what they'd deal with. I also like that you had the Immortals originally working with the Slayers. I figure Methos is old enough to remember that. What about Darius? Will he still be alive in this fic? I liked him and Fitz.

Obviously, I can't wait to read the next chapter. :)
Comments from author:
Wow, based on the length of this review, you must really like the plot! Let's see what I can answer for you.

Buffy's never really had a healthy relationship with a guy before. Sadly, Riley was possibly the closest and that's not saying much. Although her and Spike's friendship there at the end was sweet. So she needs to learn to trust herself not to make another mistake. From what I know of Methos' character - which isn't much - he can be somewhat selfish, but it's probably just because he's been around so long that he tends to be pragmatic at time. But I could be wrong. Anyway, aside from his 'flaws', he strikes me as the right Immortal for Buffy since he understands that there are grey areas in life. Duncan just sounds too idealistic to me.

As you can tell from my writing, I have my own set of Scooby issues as well. Especially by this part of the series. If it were up to me, she'd have drop-kicked them all, including little Dawnie - the ungrateful snot. But I'll settle for reconditioning her to make her a better person. The others...maybe...for some, but we'll have to see what Musie thinks.

With the Defender line, it evolved from the challenge to turn Clone-Jack from SG-1 into a male Slayer, but I thought it would be cooler to have crimefighters instead. Not exactly the Justice League, but maybe a mini-version. And with Immortals all over the world, she should have plenty to help her set up both Councils. I have no problem saving Darius since I don't like it when the wrong people die.

I'll post one more chapter before I go on my road trip.

Love the story idea! Can't wait to see how the Scoobies react. :)
Comments from author:
If you're refering to her new role, it will be a long time before they find out because of how they react to her 'death'.

Very much enjoying the premise, though I don't generally go in for the scooby-bashing. Can't wait for the next installment.
Comments from author:
This time it will be minimal so Buffy can get to the Immortals faster.

Ok, I really, really like this one! I think this one is a keeper! And of course, what with the eventual Buffy/Methos goodness... Well, that alone is grounds for keeping it right there! Can't wait to read more.

Oh! And try not to spread yourself to thin with all the stories that you're working on.
Comments from author:
For some reason I like Methos more than Duncan even though the latter is 'prettier'. Actually maybe that is the reason I like Methos more. Huh.

Thanks for the concern. I need to have different ideas bouncing around so that when one goes stale, I have another to pick up for a while.

Interesting! Love the idea of Willow being unable to control Buffy or the Slayers.
Comments from author:
Well, certainly can't allow her to bring Buffy back *again* - even if she isn't dead this time. But Willow's magick will still affect the other Slayers to some extent, but only a little bit.

Review:
A lot of responsibility, but maybe too trusting of the powers that be giving her busy work.
Comments from author:
It should keep her from brooding about the others. They already have one of those...sort of. Besides, who better to train fighters than a Slayer?

Mmm, another one. I can wait to see what you have in store for us and Buffy while you spin this tale.
Comments from author:
I think the funnest part of this one is when Buffy learns that Adam/Methos used to go by the name 'Death'. It certainly does add a different spin to the First Slayer's comment 'Death is your gift.' LOL!

I really enjoy your writing, all of them, which leads me to the conclussion that either you are insane or a chronic insomniac. You've got atleast 4-5 stories that you are keeping almost daily updates on and a few others that you update less frequently. I think I am going to enjoy this one a little more though. I tend to agree that the others did Buffy wrong and enjoy the bashing a little bit, but I think one that doesn't go too far like you suggest this one will be like is something I will also like.

Lee
Comments from author:
Well, to be honest, some of these I've had sitting in my computer for a while now and I've finally decided to start posting them. But you are right about the insomniac part. This story will deal more with Buffy's new life and the whole plethora of responsibilities that she'll have. Eventually, she will have to face the Sunnydale gang when the Slayers start to get out of hand. But she'll deal with it and get back to her own life.

Review:
Yikes! Core dump city!

Whistler's being a regular Chatty-Kathy here isn't he. What happened to the whole PtB modus operandi of speaking thru obscure prophecies in hard to find books?

Anyway...

How is Buffy the basis for the myth of the phoenix? That seems a bit backwards since the myth existed long before she did. It would read better for Whistler to tell her that she'd been given the same resurrection ability as the mythical phoenix. Assuming Buffy even knew what one was (I have my doubts).

And then there's the whole male slayer thing... at least you don't appear to want this person running around calling themselves a "Slayer". Not sure using 'Defender' is much better but at least you avoid the 'male slayer' fanfic cliche that way.

Curious to see where you plan to go with this one...
Comments from author:
You got a point with the open chattiness of Whistler, but maybe they learned their lesson with Buffy (stifled chuckle). You forget that these are mostly timeless beings that have known about the Scythe since it was created and therefore know what it could do. So it isn't so far-fetched for the myth to be based on something even if it hasn't happened yet.

They won't *exactly* be male slayers. I may regret letting this out so soon, but the Defender line is going to include the less supernatural crimefighters. Possibly like Batman or a modern day Sherlock Holmes. I tried to look up heroes that were 'native' to each continent, so they might not be very well known. That isn't to say that they won't have some boost because you gotta admit a normal human couldn't pull off half the crap that Batman did.
