Review of chapter "Chapter 6: Goodbye to the Past" from grd
Review:
Did kakistos kill Jesse in this time line? I have never seen xan so hateful to Darla/Buffy.
Comments from author:
I'm going with the assumption that Jesse died again (poor guy). Think of it this way, Xander sees Nya as the 'monster' that took his hero/crush/friend away. He's bound to be a bit irked about it.

But I fed her cookies! D: I'll give her coffee too! Hehe.

And his reason for becoming a champion, supposedly was because he saw Buffy outside of her high school in LA (before the fire) when Whistler showed her to him as an example. And told him help her out to give him something to do other than mope in the sewers feeding off of rats. He said that he "fell in love at first sight." More like lust I think (pervert as she was 15!), or in love with his ideals of her. And while he was a jerk and womanizer and horrible as a human, the guilt of what the soul-less Angelus did, likely was somewhat of a driving factor. Of course vampires are twisted reflections of the human they once where and since Liam was not a good guy, Angelus was one of the worst vampires.

Spike was unusual in that he actually retained some of humanity, more so than most vampires. Didn't mean he wasn't evil or bad, but there was some William left over. Some theories have it that Angelus and the crew pretty well beat as much of it as they could out of him, or enough that he suppressed most of it, cept for his love for Dru. Vampires weren't supposed to be capable of love but.. yeah.

As for prostitution, back in the day if you weren't married young you were an "old maid". As people didn't live as long. And Darla was older than most girls were by marriage age back then. And if her family was poor, or she had no family, prostitution wasn't highly looked upon but wasn't illegal back then either. It was a way to make money. And as women weren't seen as being worth much of anything at all, there wasn't many option of making a decent pay back then. And being that she was pretty, well... yeah.
Comments from author:
I'll let Musie know. *grin*

To me, there was such a disparity between Angelus and Spike...it wasn't even funny. And if you looked at their souled versions, it was even clearer. Angel became sadistic when he turned into Angelus, but other than the focus for his violence, Spike was almost the same.

I know prostitution was a big thing for 'old maids', but I wanted Darla to have a bit more backstory than just being a whore. She needed some sympathy - at least for this story.

Poor Joyce. I just hope she doesn't hang around the Hellmouth too long. Xander was a bit of an ass, but at least Nya didn't kill him. If Faith is the Slayer On Duty when Glory shows up, does this mean Dawn will be her sister? Lol! I enjoyed your story and now I wonder if there will be more someday. I hope so.
Comments from author:
Yeah, Dawn really did resemble Faith more, didn't she? Not sure about a sequel, but wanted to leave the possibility open just in case.

The xander characterization is spot on for season 2. The story is awesome. If you decide to do more in this universe you've created a great base.
Comments from author:
Thanks. I thought season 2 Xander would react like that - especially when faced with losing Buffy. Not sure about a sequel, but who knows what Musie will think of.

Review:
This was an interesting story. :D And I like how you put a more humanistic spin to Darla, and how Buffy could sympathize with her. I also like how she was able to see Angel for the douche that he was. How much heartache in the series could have been avoided for her if she had known what sort of person he was before getting turned? Yeesh.

*pokes your muse to get you back to other stories, and feeds it cookies*
Comments from author:
Yeah, not really sure what would make a woman turn to prostitution 400+ years ago, but sexual abuse is always a good fall back. As for Liam, it's insane he ever became a hero. Maybe part of the soul curse was to give Angelus somebody else's soul.

Leave Musie alone! She's tired from all of the Halloween writing. LOL

Review:
Yeah, that's about all they could do for Joyce. Even if they could explain what happened so that she'd believe it, at this stage she'd probably insist on Nya/Buffy going back and finishing High School!
Comments from author:
LOL. I can just imagine Nya's response to that!

Okay Xander was a bit of a prude wasn't he, a bit too much. He can be an ass sometime but geesh he even tried to give Jessie a chance once he turned and when Buffy turned vamp in nightmare world. Other than that though a pretty good ending.
Comments from author:
But Nya doesn't even look like Buffy anymore, so he can't picture his friend when he sees her. With the other two cases, he was looking at the faces of the people he cared about.

Review:
Good job of tying up the loose ends. Faking her death to give Joyce closure was the nicest thing Nya could do for her, Joyce really couldn't handle the supernatural, not until much later, so no explanations would work. The WC could care less, as long as they have a Slayer to send out to fight and die, they're happy.

I'm not surprised that Giles and Willow could accept Nya's decision, nor I am I surprised by Xander's treachery. Especially in the early days, he was incapable of seeing anything other than in terms of black and white. All Vampires are evil and must be destroyed, and that slipped over into "anything different must be evil and thus destroyed." It's only later that he started to accept shades of gray, and truthfully, I think a lot of that was because Anya would sleep with him. He never admitted the blatent hypocrisy of blaming Angel for Angelus' crimes, while forgiving Anya for Anyanka's crimes. When the soul of Liam O'Connor had passed on and a demon animated his body, Xander held Liam accountable for everything that the demon had done, while Anya, who never regretted or repented anything she had done while working for D'hoffyrn, was given a free pass for 1100 years of torture, slaughter and all-around evil. I guess the sex was REALLY good.

Maybe we can see Blade again some day, perhaps he can drop by to help out with that little snake problem in a couple of years. Nya's explanation of why she and her boys won't be around the Hellmouth made a lot of sense, clearly the WC doesn't care about Purebloods, indeed they may even be infiltrated by familiars on some level, since most of the WC's wards and defenses are based around demonic creatures, and Purebloods are biologically based instead of demonically based.

Comments from author:
Thanks. I was actually tempted to leave the Scoobies out of the reunion as well, but was talked into including them - for all the good that did. Xander probably had that double standard for Anya because she was human, while Angel was still a vampire - just one with a soul. And the only good vampire is a dusted vampire. Wonder what his reaction would have been if Angel hadn't taken back the day and moved to Sunnydale to be with Buffy in season 4 BtVS? Then Angel would be human too.

Darn you for feeding the plot bunnies ideas for a sequel! Stop it now! LOL

Review:
Your treatment of Xander seems a little harsh. I don't think his most glaring flaw is seeing the world in only black and white but that he held Buffy to a higher standard than anyone else. He expected perfection (as he defined it) in his slayer lust objects and reacted badly when they didn't measure up. He had no problems with the other women in his life (Willow, Anya) not being perfect.

And some of the depictions of merging timeline/memory issues is a bit confusing, but overall this is a good short story.
Comments from author:
Actually, it is that attitude towards Buffy that made him act that way. He didn't see Nya as anything but the monster that destroyed Buffy. At this point, he hadn't show any tolerance for demony types - either in this timeline or the original one in canon.

Sorry for the confusion of the timeline stuff, but I'm really not sure how to write a time travel fic that wouldn't be slightly confusing.

Review:
Oooh, first of all I am so glad that your muse has taken over, even though your not, LOL. I love this chapter you brought sahjan into it and had Blade kill him brilliant. I kind of feel bad about her leaving her friends :( but alas it has to happen huh. I would love for her to run into potential faith and train her, she needs a strong female figure in her life (hint, hint).
anxiously waiting for the next chap.
Comments from author:
Well, don't get too excited, it was just a small twist I needed to take care of. I figured that if Whistler took the place of Holtz, somebody needed to take Connor's. Just lucky that Blade could fill that role.

Review:
Very glad to know that Drusilla managed to convince the Council to stop doing the Cruciamentum almost 140 years before Buffy managed to show them why it might not be a good idea to piss off their Slayer beyond all possibility of reconciliation.

And I DEFNITELY enjoyed the idea of Blade taking over Connor's role in the Sahjahn prophecy and finding it almost insultingly easy to take the demon out!
Comments from author:
Anytime I can get rid of that d**n test, I'm a happy camper. Can't you just picture Sahjhan's face when it isn't Connor he has to worry about? LOL.
