Review of chapter "Chapter Three" from smolder
Just found this fic and really enjoy it so far. It does sadden me that Willow is dead; I was really hoping to see the whole group still together/alive.

Great job though, I particularly liked the way you worked around Wash being dead without him getting out of the battle unscathed. I eagerly await your next update!

Wow. Giles got to die of old age? Nice. But poor Willow! And so the remaining Scoobies are immortal give or take. LOL Spike is Spike and wow.

Review of chapter "Chapter Three" from lothlorien
i like it. especially the way that the scoobies interact with each other. i do have a question though. are you planning to make this a spike/xander fic? that might be interesting. or are they only close friends? please continue soon
Comments from author:
hmm... this might be giving away too much, but i think i'm going to keep the s/x largely ambiguous. the four remaining scoobies have been living and working together for over five hundred years, so relationships are bound to get interesting, no?

I don't know how I managed to miss this before now, but I'm completely hooked.

I particularly enjoyed the fact that Jayne is no dummy in your story, and can't wait to see what comes next.

Review of chapter "Chapter Three" from Greywizard
First off, this is one of the most enjoyable 'reveals' regarding the Scoobies and the supernatural I've read in quite a while. Good work.

Second, how is that Jayne of all people is the one who recognizes the Scoobies for who they are.

Third, I also like your explanation for why it's only the four of them still remaining. Discovering the fact that the Key can reconstitute itself back into its human form must have been extremely upsetting the first time it happened.

Anyway, great story and I'm glad were seeing more of as quickly as we are.

Thanks for sharing this.

Review of chapter "Chapter Three" from draconis
Like some of the other reviewers, I like the characterizations. The changes in the Council, etc. over the years is interesting.

Comparing the similar state of acknowledgment of the Reavers by those in the core to the way the supernatural was acknowledged on "Earth-that-Was" is clever. Good way to explain it.

I really like the imaginative (and I think unique) idea of the Companions Guild manipulating politics, pulling the strings from behind the scenes. That seems very much a natural progression of the behind-the-scenes power-base. Their support of the Alliance over the Independents is believable (and inevitable) in that scenario and you present the case quite well.

Are they the "Shadows Underneath" (from "Already, the Shadows have missed details; the Academy slipped by."), or are the 'real' "Shadows Underneath" what you allude to beginning to develop in the verse per Buffy's part of the story when she says "That is no longer true." regarding the Alliance's viability to support her people? I guess what I'm asking is, are the Shadows the actual identified "Shadows", or something less tangible and so far unidentified?

I really, REALLY liked Dawn's statement at your end of item4..."This is magic, Captain. The dirty secret of 'Earth-that-Was'." It just struck a "Wow!" chord in me for some reason. Made me sit-up and internally capitalize the "M".
Comments from author:
wow, thanks! i'm glad you're enjoying it, and i have to admit... dawn's statement is my favorite line in the fic thus far.
the shadows are... disobliging. it wouldn't be fair of me to give the game away, would it? *grins*

Review of chapter "Chapter Two" from littleoldme
This is very interesting and I like your characterizations of River and Dawn. A couple of small things are throwing me, though. Spike referring to Xander as "pet" (which he's done twice) seems incredibly weird given what we saw of their relationship in the canon. If they aren't in a slash relationship, it certainly makes it sound like they are; if they are, I still can't see it being a sugary sweet one, the way "pet" makes it sound.

The second thing that's throwing me is the focus you're putting on Rae. She seems to be getting a lot of air time for an OC-- she's the one we meet first, she gets the most descriptions of her physical attributes, she's the one who gets to give the "this is what the world is really like shpiel." The thing with original characters is that when a reader comes into a story, they don't care about them. They care about the canon characters, and you have to MAKE us care about the OC's. Treating Rae like she's a core scooby and always has been and giving her more focus than the others doesn't tell me who she is as a character, and it doesn't make me like her. For the most part, it seems like you could have told the entire story without ever needing a Rae at all, so every time I see her name, my first instinct is to start skimming until I get back to the core characters.
Comments from author:
thanks for pointing that out; she's pretty important in a way i couldn't manage to make the scoobies later on, so i think i've been treating her as if she were that important the whole way through. i'll work on it, and make an announcement if i change things.
on the pet front, i'll admit to being a few years separated from my most recent buffy-watching, but "pet" struck me as something spike might say if he were worried about someone he cared for, no matter the particular relationship. while they might (hee) be shown to have a romantic one, i felt that spike was simply treating xander like he's made out of glass - hence the endearments. if you disagree, let me know! i'm writing all of this in a non-English speaking country where nobody has television, so there're not many people to talk with about it. massive feedback is greatly appreciated!
