So am I imagining things or is there pretext here? I feel that Xander is strong enough emotionally to support H. No one's ever needed to pick up the pieces for Horatio, but Xander would be perfectly capable of putting him back together again should he ever need to fall apart. So pretext?
So, Xan's gonna give Speed the lecture of a lifetime yes? Really drill it in that he needs to take care of himself, and that includes keeping his gun clean.
I'll keep an eye out for the next chapter.

I wonder if Speed, as Xander's cousin, knows the truth about Sunnydale? It sounds as though Xander might tell Horatio the truth about SunnyD. Horatio is a man that believes in science, following the evidence, and he is a great lie detector. It's very very very difficult to lie to Horatio. If Xander presents the facts to him, I think that Horatio will believe Xander. We will see.

I haven't figured that out yet, but I think that if Speed has visited Xander in SunnyD then he probably knows about the nightlife there. It will tie into some elements in the future chapters I write.

This is a very good start.
Ironically, this afterthought on Xander's part (boy always did take better care of others than of himself) likely saved Rich a job as a bartender at a strip joint. And, given the vamp brothels, I'd avoid the Dale's strip joints like the superflu!!
