Three? They are so out of their depth. Ten might make Faith sweat a little...

This is part of Tommy Sherman's vague plan. He was an arrogant, sleazy jerk, but he didn't seem to be a Kevin-level moron. He's trying to figure out what he's dealing with.

Without the loophole created by Buffy's death and resurrection, the First Evil will have to expend even more of its resources for rather less of a gain, and with risks of major (as in centuries lasting) setbacks to its plans even larger. Unless it can arrange circumstances to force Daria/Faith and/or Jane into a major Nice Job Breaking It Hero moment, it would be acting almost completely out of character, considering that it was so risk averse that it made Stalin look like Fredrick the Great.
Also, I think Tommy Sherman is/was possibly the worst descision the First could make for a proxy. Since Principal Li was drained by Glory, the next best candidates are Terry Barry Barlowe (Better as a client of Wolfram and Hart, to be sure, but still much better than Tommy Sherman), Claude and Romanica, Dr. Shar, Janet Barch (as a misandrist supply-side to Caleb) or even Bing and/or the Spatula Man.

The First is kind of off balance at the moment It had long-term plans that were thrown off by the sudden appearance of Daria/Faith Morgendorffer. It is not out for simple revenge, though. Its new long-term projections say that killing Daria/Faith is a good idea.
As for the candidates: I wanted someone who was leaning towards being a genuine villain, and who was in or near Lawndale. Terry Perry Barlowe's main motivation appeared to be money and self-image, and he and the Amaz0n modeling agency people aren't anywhere near Lawndale, anyway. The DJs were clueless, not evil; Barch and Caleb would have killed each other, and Caleb's out there as well. Never thought of Dr. Shar.
Glad to see more of Daria Faith Morgendopher, one thing though - while Daria not believing (or even disbelieving) in standard Juedo-Christian god is quite believable, especially given the deviance which counters standard scriptures in the BTVS universe by the same token the fact that she's seen actual evidence of the existance of a soul, and existance of the person separate from the body, including years after the body if dead makes her disbelieving in AN afterlife completely ridiculous.

Well, the standard Judeo-Christian version of an afterlife, anyway.

and he did leave via the window. Hm, 'bringers. They seem kind of lame compared to most villain types, but they are easy to underestimate. They killed a lot of potentials after all.

Oh dear me dear, it sounds like the First is up to its tricks already, and they are up to no good. Still, Daria could've handled Tommy Sherman before, and she'll handle him again, I bet.
