Oh Giles, are you even real anymore? Or just a pale reflection?

Review of chapter "Postscript" from (Current Donor)Listener
Review:
Fairly enjoyable and definitely well-written. There was less of Alice than I was expecting, and cats-as-magical-black-friends are a bit of a trope these days, but I did like the story overall. It certainly explains Giles's weird behavior in season 7.

Review:
Awwww~!!!!! And yayyyy!!! And more aww, and more yayy!! (I could go on like this all day...LOL) Another great story, beautiful characterization of Giles, and a big ol' thank you for making season 7 a little more comprehensible...even if "canon" didn't agree with this, you pulled it sideways and it settled right in and explained sooo much.

This is delightfully fun and still sufficiently serious to be fantastically enjoyable.

Review of chapter "Postscript" from Cutiepie
Review:
Yay! You did it! OK, so Giles did it, but you wrote him doing it. Just how is Melanie Geoffrey's great-granddaughter? Was Geoffrey married before he went through the Looking Glass? I don't remember you mentioning that. I'll have to go back and re-read (oh, darn). =D Such a son-in-law, but at least he didn't have to actually LIVE around the jerk.

All in all, this was a very good and satisfying ending to a wonderful, engrossing story. Thank you so much for writing it! It is certainly one of my favorites from the whole site.
Comments from author:
Geoffrey didn't mention the other family he left behind, but he did talk about his brother, who Giles probably went and researched when he got back. That would have led him to realise who else was in the Davenport family - and that Quentin Traver's married Geoffrey's daughter, who was from good Watcher stock, and that would have led him to Melanie, at which point he would have discovered that she'd been called along with all the rest ...

I *think* Melanie's father was killed in the explosion along with her grandfather - which means that Geoffrey is possibly her nearest living male relative. And of course Giles went back to bring him out. It was the least he could do. Imagine living fifty years without a decent cup of tea!

Review of chapter "Chapter Fourteen" from kalibex
Review:
Really enjoying this story. However, your pacing is...a little inconsistent, the plot seeming to move in fits and spurts. Not the end of the world, just...kind of looks as though you suddenly got impatient and are now sprinting to the finish, after the more leisurely pace and attention you'd paid to the dreamy, surreal world-building details. The change is...a bit jarring. Expected details about the journey to Buffy's mirror, for instance.
Comments from author:
Not impatient - just focusing on the story I want to tell. Once Giles found his purpose (if not entirely himself) that's where the narrative shifted - to Buffy and the culmination of weeks under the mirror demon's influence.

As for those three days... well, there was a lot of walking, a few unexpected locations (at least two Atlantic liners, more hotels and lots of diner restrooms), one evening running away from a dandygyre or two, and then hacking the way past some jabberwoks once they got to the mirrors of Sunnydale. Nothing too it, really. Giles might get round to telling me about it one day ...

Review of chapter "Chapter Thirteen" from Cutiepie
Review:
I absolutely love this story! It started out a bit confusing, but everything is beginning to make sense to me now. (What does that say about my mind?) I half expected for Giles to tell the White Knight that once he was free, he'd try to "call out" the old man too, if desired. I don't know if it would be desirous at this late date, but I still kind of expected the offer. Can barely wait for the next update! =D

Review of chapter "Chapter Nine" from mokahi
Review:
Your story is intriguing. The imagery you've used is so effective in creating that sense of menace in the strange world where Giles finds himself. Very, very creepy. I'm glad he's found a guide. The cat is a great character. I look forward to the continuing journey.

Review of chapter "Chapter Nine" from JoeDineen
Review:
Very interesting so far, I do wonder at how Giles ended up in the Mirror verse and where the rest of him is, in the real world perhaps. Images and mirrors can be used to capture the soul, in some myths at any rate.
Comments from author:
All will be revealed!

And yes, there's a lot of mythology relating to mirrors. They can be very magical things ...
