Review of chapter "Because It's What She Does, Part One" from Vassago
Review:
For someone that so hates having her choice taken away from her, Cordelia seems to be planning to do the exact same thing to at least one person, regardless of what they want or what they tell her.

That she is doing it to help them doesn't matter. Jasmine thought she was doing the right thing with her plan as well. And so do so many other beings, evil and good.

This just struck me as odd.

EDIT:
"Well, okay, she was going to help him whether he liked it or not – his permission wasn’t required and never had been – but it would be nice; she didn’t want to have to fight him, too. But she would."
To me this seems to be clearly resolving to take away his choice before she even meets with him to give him a choice. I understand I'm probably wrong, but that is what it seems like to me.
Comments from author:
You're wrong, and the reason you are is clearly stated in the prose.

Review of chapter "Because It's What She Does, Part Three: Closure" from Vassago
Review:
I am getting a lot of mixed signals here. Always have a choice, but it was meant to happen this way which implies their choice didn't matter. Higher powers manipulated it to happen, so it would have happened regardless of their choices. Every one should have their choice, but I am going to take it away from this person because it is for the best.

No shades of gray or condeming others, but she takes them to task for everything they did and their personality which implies condemnation anyway. Morality as a human concept, but then talking about how there are no shades of gray, only good and evil.

A good fic, but a bit too many contradictions in both thought and action for me to get too emotional or caring over it. It seemed like you were trying too hard to put something in to perspective.

Review:
There really aren't words to describe how beautiful I find this story. I love each aspect of it so much...Particularly the dialogue. And this feels like so much more of a genuine moment for Cordelia and Xander than so many others that have shown up. Excellent storytelling technique, development, pacing, and as I said dialogue. Loved ALL of it.

Review:
Excellent fic.

But right at the end there, after Cordy preaching about choices, she's a bit heavy handed? and given that Xander is the 'one who sees' and all that, the suggestion that Doyle was meant to die... and now that he, xander, was meant to become a seer (in the irony of after BREAKING prophecy, and prophecies are given by... drum roll.... seers.)

yyyeah.

Excellent fic. Not sure how intentional the pun at the end was. And now I have ten minutes of sleep to get before I have to be up for work. damn you. wait. 9 minutes... ack.

This is interesting, but I'm pretty confused about the views of the characters. I get that you were trying to portray all of them as realistic and as people, but Cordy keeps saying things about them and then says that it's in the past so it's not important any more. Maybe I'll get it better if I reread the story. I like the idea of Xander as Cordy's Watcher. The part about Anya being pregnant and why she didn't leave was also good.

Review:
Read this a couple of times and each time it never ceases to move me. The characterizations you have feel note perfect for the people from the series and reflect the failings of them as well as their incredible ability to move forward considering all the baggage they carry from their past. Cordy is an icon the way you portray her. At times ruthless and understanding, her humanity and "Cordiness" make her dealings with those she does and doesn't care for moving and resonating. There is an almost God like quality in her wrath, but kindness and forgiveness shown. Maybe not always to a person's face, but thru her creating of actions thru others. The part of Xander's loss hurts to read. I don't know how else to put it, but the build up and payoff there is almost hard to read because of the emotions you are able to invoke with your writing. I am not foolish enough to believe it doesn't have something to do with my fondness for Xander and Anya's characters, but even if I was indifferent the gut punch it delivers is deep and painful, but at the same time it is a good pain in that it feels good to have it affect me as the reader that much after repeated readings.

Still hopeful that the sequel is coming soon rather than later. Not sure quite where you would want to take it as with it being self contained within the BTVS you could open it up somewhat to a crossover or leave it as exploring aspects of the Buffy world that are solely of your creation. The emotional scars that need mending are still deep and regardless of the happy ending of this the pain that would have to be present in the sequel would be difficult by my guess to muster. My best suggestion or two bits to add would be to interplay Cordy and Xander's travel and development with scenes of ongoing resolutions and new issues that arrive to confront the rest of the players in the Buffy and Angel stables. I think a real test of Xander's dancing on that fine line that both Buffy and Willow have crossed in the past might work with Cordy both trying to help and also being held back at times by her own lingering issues with Xanders actions in the past and present. Could work, but no matter how I look at it, it would seem to be a bear to deal with. Best of luck and here's hoping things go your way and the muses are helpful. Later. By the by, if I haven't already, will by adding my overdue recommend.

I enjoyed reading your story and would like to read the sequel once it comes out. However, will it remain Cordelia+Xander in the sequel or will it be a threesome?
