fëa - soul/spirit/personality - Elves believe the fëa IS the elf - the hroar simply a vessel.
Ah yes! I had forgotten that (yay for remembering LOTR terms and ideas:)
I love how you decided elves get pregnant. Very medical and spiritual thinking!

Woking out something that fitted my own knowledge of conception with what Tolkien says was fascinating to do. He says that Elves and humans are basically the same species, which fits with them being able to interbreed, and so conception cannot be that different. But there is this thing of Galadriel not having given birth until she was thousands of years old...
There s someone else who writes in the Tolkien-verse, who is a life-scientist, and she has also had thinky thoughts about elven conception. We realised that we had come to similar conclusions even though we had described things in a slightly different way. This made us both happy!
Oh, this is beautiful! I have no patience for writing actual drabbles myself, because I find the word counting to be tedious. This was great, every time I get an update alert from you I squee. :)

Thank you. I rather like the discipline of drabbles, it is so different from writing long stories - and so I belong to a small community on Live Journal (http://tolkien-weekly.livejournal.com/) where I write one a week. Just occasionally the Returnverse characters show up there!
The fact that you can invoke so much emotion in a series of drabbles just amazes me beyond belief. Yours is a wonderful knack for capturing the sentimental bits of life which so many seem to take for granted and that is part of what breathes such life into your stories. It's certainly what keeps me coming back and reading these stories over and over again.

Thank you so much. I think I have always been at least as interested in the 'why?' and the 'how did they feel?' as in the 'how?' of things in stories. I'm so happy that other people enjoy the same aspects.

I did have to refresh my memory some on who Merilwen and Rhiwen were, but this was adorable. :)

I was trying to get the two small stories (this and 'Voices in the Wind') posted before I began to post Dust. And so I have to admit I rushed a bit - I should have put a character reminder list! Sorry.
I love this whole word you have created, I think these back stories really add to the series and are a fantastic read! I was so excited to see a new chapter had been posted and disappointed as I had to work and wait until reading it! I read the new chapter from start to finish as soon as I could. It was well worth the wait.

Oh - thank you! I am very fond of 'my' world and so I am always really pleased when other people like it too.
There is another 'small return' on my hard-drive that need beta-ing, and I am currently writing something a good bit longer which should be ready for me to start posting it at the end of July or beginning of August.
I absolutely love this series, and this latest vignette is a perfect addition. Its these little glimpses of the lives of Tindome and Rumil and their family between the big events that makes the story all the more real. Everytime I see a new chapter of this story posted or a new story posted in this series I get excited and I quite literally hang on every word.

Thank you so much - I really do appreciate that you take the time to let me know that you like it. I really like writing these little vignettes, although there is a longer story in the pipe-line for a BigBang challenge in late July - so look out for it here around then.

Review of chapter "The Right Kind of Shield" from DonSample
Review:
I've spent the last couple of days reading this entire series, and it is really very good.
When I came across this little collection of vignettes, I couldn't help thinking that it would be nice to read a story in which Éowyn learns that her musings about Elves engaging in "marital relations" from the final chapter in "Brotherhood" are *very* wrong.

Edited 8/11/11 - I hope the edited comment gets e-mailed to you again - just to say you certainly sparked something off with this comment - I posted 'Educating Éowyn' a few days ago...
Original answer; Thank you so much - I am really pleased to know that you've enjoyed them.
As for Éowyn learning that she had her 'facts' wrong; that might well be a good idea for a vignette - thank you for the suggestion!
It might have to wait in the queue for a little - but I will certainly keep it in mind.
