Review of chapter "For the world is hollow and I have touched the sky" from Meneldur
Review:
Oh, simply exquisite. I love this chapter so much... Just the title made for an awesome start.
The scene with Bchenka was hilarious, especially his “I taught him that.”
The bad-mouthing over fictional characters was great. I'm with Willow, personally. Nerdanel was AWESOME.
Woah. You know, I suspected something was wrong with Lebannen, and I thought it was connected to Rowan, but she's actually Rowan? By the Rood, that is amazing.
Sam is looking for Xeno? This is getting more and more fun all the time. Wonder when Fred will drop in.
So, what really happened to Rowan? I assume it's got to do with the Mayor, and I'll be rushing to Inconceivable to check that in a sec. But what will they do with her now, if they won't use a body to give her form? If they refuse to use an actual body, I guess the best thing they can do is create something like Robot-Buffy, and connect it with the Mainframe on which Rowan's soul resides. Of course. it's incredibly useful to have someone like that, who can manipulate the computers of the world. I guess Rowan will be more with the techno stuff once Willow moves to magic and techno-mancy.
Simon can't have been that bad? Has he forgotten the whole 'fornication in a church' phase? But a very amusing class, nevertheless.
Woah, Rowan rescued Kendra. Another thing to read about the Mayor.
Oh, so Frank does practice restraint for those who deserve it. Good to know.
That was an evil place to stop. Heh. Double-entendre. I really can't wait to see if they manage to handle Simon, and what consequences this will have for him. I don't think Kendra is that important, but we shall see if she stays or returns to Sam. Can't wait for more.

"Daddys on his way with the calvary" - "Daddy's on his way with the cavalry".
"He can’t ever hurt you agian" - "Again"
"elaborate sarcasm probably was not going to work here" - "elaborate sarcasm was probably not going to work here"
Comments from author:
Thank you. Oleg Bchenka in some ways is a very simple man. As most of your questions were answered in later chapters, I shall refer you to them. ;-)

Thanks for the heads up on the typos, but the first two were actually intentional, to show that Joyce is not a great typist...

Review:
If they have had contact with the Asgard, maybe they can get them to give them a clone so they can download Rowan into the body-if they were identical twins they would be genetically identical in any event. Unfortunately as I recall, this probably predates the serious contact with the Asgard. Luckily Rowan doesn't appear to view the world at large as a threat yet. I could definitely see if she got scared badly how she would have the ability to go Skynet on everyone.

Great chapter.
Comments from author:
The Asgard have not yet been encountered, yes. Rowan going skynet would not be 'of the good'...

Review:
On Simons flight from New York to London in the previous chapter; as this story takes place before the year 2000, the Concorde supersonic jet from NY to London and to Paris is still in service, twice a day. Half of the shorter trip time was provided by priority landing slots and priority handling. (A higher speed doesn't help, if the plane is stuck in a traffic jam for hours.) The Concorde had limited seating (~120 seats), so he can't take his family with him. Price was around 20% on top of a regular first class seat.

On Jenny's request for a "self-written web page that will work when more than three people hit it at once", that was actually easier in 1996 than it is today. Web sites were often handwritten using mostly static pages, and only pages that needed to process user input used cgi. No PHP, little database access and no fancy toolkits eating lots and lots of CPU cycles.
(Ok, there were some fancy toolkits, but if you wanted a serious, portable high traffic website, the tool to use was called vi.)

Does Giles already have the tranq gun in his office?
Comments from author:
Yeah, I considered Concorde. Had he decided to go alone he probably would have used it. But with the Family, just too many people. Though I have no idea how long in advance Concorde was usually booked. Monry of course, would be no object to Simon.

I freely and fully admit that I can't code my way out of a paper bag. I just made that assignment up. If you can write something pithy Jenny could call out to her class while be dragged of by Bchenka, I'd be much obliged. The tranq gun appears once Oz is discovered to be a werewolf, so no, not yet.

Thanks for the thoughtful review and the advice.

You posting this on sundays (or saturday nights) is always a high point in the week for me.
So thanks.
On another hand: Didn't Simon already visit the library without some ill effects?
Comments from author:
I try to hit the weekend at any rate. ;-) Glad you enjoy it so much. Simon did visit the library but the why's and hows of his current are revealed in the next chapter.

Review:
Simon on a dark mana overload? That's...not of the good. Though I have to agree with everything he said. Poor Kendra. The girl is going to need a serious sit down after that. I'm now curious what Simon having his little out burst is going to make of the third shoe. We have Rowen, the Watchers practices finally coming back to take a bite, and then...

I'm guessing we'll find out what happened to Hazel at some point. Though, I'm not holding out too much hope that she fared even as well as Rowen did. That she is the one that Faith found isn't too likely with so many other lost children out there.

On another note I had an interesting flash when reading Hammond and O'Neil having their chat. I forgot which universe I was in and thought I was reading Fate's Little Plaything for a second. Guess that happens when you're reading multiple very good fics with similar character styles. Even when your dealing with different authors.
Comments from author:
Pretty bad, but not as bad as it could be. Simon XIV would be a lot worse...

Ellen is not Hazel, no. But more about that will be revealed soon, I hope.

Since Fate's little Plaything is an absolute favourite of mine, I'm very complimented indeed.

Le Guin is a goddess of scifi and fantasy, Lathe of Heaven and Left Hand of Darkness were my rotation favorites for years along with Norton, Aimov and ALL the rest. About Kendra though. When did she get rescued? In Forever... she was just captured. Is that info in another story somewhere else?
Comments from author:
Yes she is. The story that features Kendra's rescue is up, and I hope you enjoyed it.

Review:
Very nice chapter, and I'm looking forward to when all of the different stories that you have going on are going to converge, especially when the extended Meier family goes to merry old England to save Luna. Since you seem to already be on the path to saving Fred before she goes to Pylea, I'd be interested to see what you could do with some of the other lesser known Buffy and Angel characters. One that comes to mind is Gwen Raiden, given her age when she was on Angel I'd say that she'd be in her mid to late teens at this point. You could have Danielle helping her since she lives in LA, and it'd also be an easy way to introduce Gunn earlier than normal as well. Just throwing out a few ideas. Looking forward to more! Update soon!
Comments from author:
The family shall head there pretty darn soon, yes. I'm not quite sure about other characters, I'm already fairly character heacy. So they might make appearances, but only as cameos. Life cannot get much worse for them after all...

Next update on this should go up on Saturday as scheduled.

Review:
Well, I didn't expect the copy to have acquired one of the triplets' souls. I don't know if you're familiar with it, but Dave's mention of game time made me think of the cartoon ReBoot... Anyway, RowanWillow may be trapped in the machine, but at least she's got better surroundings and outside contact now. And WillowWillow just might think some of her actions through more in the future.

Xeno does have quite a name on him, doesn't he? And we get some backstory to his position on science merging with magic. I thought that Fred had been trapped in Pylea for five years, which would mean she should have all ready disappeared... How recent was the work Sam found? Will she get to skip a trip to Pylea?

Well Kendra's arrival brings multiple issues to the group's attention. I am glad she escaped sacrifice. As for the cliffhanger... well, that's one way for the group to find out where the Hellmouth lurks.
Comments from author:
I know ReBoot, yes. A fun series. Willow and Rowan both are quite shocked. A signal lesson to both of them...

Fred was sent to Pylea on May 7th 1996, it 's still 1995, so soon, yes...

Kendra's arrival is a catalyst to connect Forever is too long and Lonely Souls. As for the Cliffhanger, I share the blame with Letomo. ;-)

Oh man..Simon of the Black Eyes. Damn and I thought Darth Willow was bad...somehow I feel that Darth Simon would make her look like a cute fuzzy bunny!

Things are sure cranking up on the Hellmouth and loved how you worked Lovegood in for Sam to mention. Not sure on the time line...but might Fred be heading off to her other dimensional trip soon?

Turkey Day is closing in and I can't wait to see what it holds for this expanded Summer Clan.

Comments from author:
Simon is not so bad. Simon's daddy, he was bad... Wait till you see that particular one appear.

Fred, if all goes to her mad scientist mentor's plan, would go to Pylea in May 1996. It is now november 1995...

Actually I intend to keep Thanksgiving fairly short. Lots of things to do and write after all...

Review:
Huh. So that's how Kendra got out of it. And.. Rowan. Didn't see that coming. Good plot development. All she needs now is a body. Willow's twin. Weird. I hope she gets one, and is identical to Willow. Ok, that explains Simon's truly nasty statements towards the end there. he doesn't like watchers, but was pushing it way too far, especially knowing Kendra was there. Hm, good explanation for how Kendra made it to the states.
'Taken from' at age of 5? I always was a bit suspicious about that "my parents gave me up..." thing that Kendra said.
I sure hope that vote doesn't oust the Council, they're the ones who know who the potentials are... one could see a new Slayer called, and simply not ever going to North America, which could cause all sorts of problems.
Primus? Too bad Giles didn't have that in the show, being the Slayer's watcher seemed like the lowest level of watcher, with HQ watchers having all the authority. Weird. (I did like that one girl who 'wrote her thesis' on Spike, she was funny).
Comments from author:
Yup, Rowan. Unexpeceted depths, that girl. I'm glad you liked my exposition/explanation. Simon really does not like the Watchers. And the Hellmouth and the things in that file provided just that little push...

Simon might start looking for ways to locate Potentials, you never know...

In the show Giles got treated pretty badly, in my AU that means Dumbledore (or his non-Potter analog) was the head of the Council, and that Quentin Travers never lost his Slayer.

Glad you liked it and thanks for reviewing

Yep. That's an evil cliffie. But we found one of Willow's triplet sisters. Is Willow going to tell Rowan about Hazel?

And hey, Kendra FINALLY made it to Buffy, which is a good thing.
Comments from author:
Yup, Evil cliffhangers for the win! Two down, one to go? And probably, yes, but after she's had a chance to settle a bit.

Yeah, Kendra's awfully slow...

Review:
Growls at author for leaving it there.

I think I missed Kendras capture though so what's happened in Africa? and for that matter with Travers the character you've had crop in the books doesn't seem the sort to do what happened with Faith. Arragrant yes, believes in the need for training yes, killing experienced martial artists who are giving a potential a stable home and martial arts training no even after they refused to let a watcher near her it'd make more sense to leave her there until and unless she's activated. Which probably means, given this "Watcher gets a voice on the council" it was the one who was trying to get access to her in the first place who arranged this.

Be interesting to see what's happening in England given the fact that the current actions have not only started getting watcher's killed "left and right" but its also prompted a powerful neutral power to decide whether or not to deny them access to America permanently or at least go to war with them. There's going to be groups who'll try to ride this into power even if they don't genuinely feel the slayers should be treated better.

I am curious how Glady's got killed though given that she and her husband were immortals I wouldn't have though the wetworks team would have beheaded/tortured them just killed them and extracted faith. Well we'll see I guess.
Comments from author:
Sorry about that.;-)

Well, the whole Faith/Kendra thing is in Forever is too long even for us, Kendra's capture included. Though the full plan hasn't been explained yet. It will be in a future chapter. It may or not be expounded upon in the last chapter of Forever.

Did you ever read a book titled 'Valentina: Soul in Sapphire'? There could be parallels to Rowan's situation. If she became a corporation, it would give her legal standing as a person and a form of immortality until she got a body. Just a thought.
Great Chapter!
Comments from author:
I've never heard of it, but I shall look. A corporation, eh? I think the world might not be ready for that yet. ;-)
