I like where you are going with this, and the leveling idea is good.
As for what universes, one not mentioned is Dune :) as to what powers they would get, I'm not sure perhaps some derivative of the benejesatate powers?
As for Star Wars for Willow I think force witch would be fitting and force adepts for Xander and Buffy not sure what Giles would have.
As for Stargate and Star Trek they are manly tec based and you have pointed out that is is very hard to bring the physical objects back
Some other favorites are Rifts (The RPG not the new mmo although that would work well) and shadowrun with Xander being a as hyena spirit Adepts:)

Just to clarify, it is not difficult to get dropped stuff out. It's just that so far, they'd been at it twice, on difficulty akin to the first two territories in diablo 2, and have gained level 6 abilities. the drop in the beginning of the game is as it could be expected, they just haven't found many things that are worth the effort to bring back.
I'm not going to say anything about you powering them up too fast, mainly because I LIKE stories that have super-powered characters... especially Xander. My only complaint about the power-ups is more along the lines of 'why isn't Xander more powerful?' I get that he has access to only a small amount of the Beyonder's powers, but I would think even a small amount would give him more power than Willow; yes, she is a super witch later on in the series but she's still human and I don't think Xander is anymore. That said, I liked the original, and I'm liking this, even if Xander isn't in the forefront of things the way I like.

Interesting fic, it greatly reminds me of another fic I read called Dungeon Monk Xander, unfortunately that one hasn't been updated in quite some time. :( I can't remember who the author was. Anyway, I have to get ready for work now, again... :(

Great rewrite. I would always suggest the Stargate verse for the 'real world' it's rich mythos and great tech base allow for large leeway. Also unlike the Star Wars universe its set in current times and places, sort of.

Interseting idea, I like the way Xander is forced to use his abilities.
It is a good idea that not all the upgrades are flashy as the case may be.
As for what sci-fi universe to use I would lean toward SW. For one the stargate cross is ofter used with characters getting something from Halloween that attracts their attention, while I have seen SW I don't think I have ever seen NJO time period used. Also the way against the Vong was horrible and inserting some help for the heros that allow them to reduce the damages would be nice.

As a loyal fan I'm required to say Stargate before mentioning any others, but I've recently started playing starcraft 2 and the sheer variety of the Zerg combined with the high tech of the protoss could be quite fun to read about.
Why not a star trek in this galaxly and perhaps star wars in another galaxy, the reason is because of the gene war which would concide nicely with slayers awaking and all full out demon war invasion then addany other aggresive alien race from star trek and got one hell of a war going on

Good re-start the "leveling" of your characters seems more consistent. While I like the Stargate universe and have nostalgic fondness for the Star Wars 'verse, I would like to see the Farscape 'verse explored.
